Fighting back !!!

They pay state, federal, and local tax on their income. The bill was introduced to lower the amount of tax the airlines had to absorb for fuel costs. If/when they can't remain competitive, the state of Georgia will suffer. It's nothing more than PR work and chest thumping. I watched the same thing with Southwest Airlines a number of years ago. Once the state recognized the economic impact losing them would have, they reversed course. Politics is the one of the biggest contributors to the destruction of our country.

And government picking the winners and losers in business via taxbreaks or other incentives is one of the single biggest political gestures out there. Government has absolutley no place doing so - but many do it anyway for kickbacks, etc.

Delta move their headquarters from Atlanta? That would cost Delta far more than $40M. Rest assured they aren't going anywhere. As far as ticket prices are concerned, Delta will be unable so substantially raise them as long as there is sufficient competition in the marketplace.

Winners: Georgia taxpayers and Americans who believe "the people" mentioned in the Second Amendment are the same "people" mentioned throughout the rest of the Bill of Rights.

It won't hurt Delta at all, financially. Their bean counters are already busily rubbing their greasy little hands together, "Let's see, no more tax break on so many gallons of fuel divided by that many seats, add a comfy profit for us, fares just went up by that much and we can blame it on the state. And no more pretzels!" So basically Delta's passengers get to pay the tax, instead of the citizens of Georgia....

Haha, and how many of those passengers will now be NRA members?

Nailed it!

Lots of guys here that should start their own business school--at least they have some "original" ideas about how business should work. --Jerry

Austin,Tx is forcing small business to have paid sick leave, weather you can afford it or not,,government has no place in private business.Delta made a choice, their the ones that
that have to live with it,the consumers can make a choice also, keep government out.

The upside to consider is that Delta's management that decided to shun the NRA as a political statement now have to answer to stockholders that they work for and justify an arbitrary PC PR posture that cost them a significant favorable tax treatment.

Over regulation is rampant. It’s in your personal life, business life, it’s the disease that encouraged people to leave the old land for the new land. If you read the founders thoughts and beliefs they dealt with much of the same we deal with today. Most the of them agreed the most corrupt and destructive force was the banking industry.

If I see someone make a stand or a statement that combats the current trend of over regulation I applaud, whether it makes financial sense isn’t the determining factor for me. For me, it just makes sense.

This move could cost Atlanta the Amazon headquarters bid which would create 50,000 jobs.

Earlier in this thread you said they can't lose what they don't have. Now you are saying they can lose what they don't have. You cant change your thought process to match the outcome you want.

Reread my statement (post #7). I was referring to Delta, not Atlanta.

Now Delta is in full damage control mode after singling out the NRA, vowing to eliminate any of its 2000 discounts "for any group of a politically divisive nature." [Whatever THAT means.]

And guess how many tickets Delta sold under the (former) NRA discount. Answer: 13. Those 13 tickets cost Delta $50M. Delta's CEO ought to be looking for a new job.

That was 13 discount tickets to the RNC not 13 in history.
And delta has become the carnival cruise lines of the sky. If no republican ever got back on there nobody would notice due to the screeching thats still going on. Its no loss to not get a discount with delta i assure you.

It does seem somewhat interesting that a state government in essence is taking a stand with a lobbying group.

Be it a "state group", "lobbying group", government entity, private entity, big business, individual, politician or Joe Shmoe.........ANYTIME ANYONE makes a rule, decision, a stand or whatever...............THAT COMPLIES WITH The COSTITUTION of The United States and The Bill of Rights (ENUMERATED NOT GRANTED THERIN).......It IS a GOOD THING!
THAT is where the "COZY" relationship between business, big business, big money, and politicians/governments has gone so WRONG! For the sake of MONEY, politicians and lawmakers have SUBVERTED the Constitution to give these big money, special interest the ADVANTAGE of a DIFFERENT SET OF RULES/LAWS than everyone else has to follow......making them UNEQUAL UNDER THE LAW which is against the Rule of EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER THE LAW. Now it has gotten to the point that big business and the people (scum) that run some of them think they have the right to DENY others their basic HUMAN RIGHTS under The Constitution if they FEEL like it for the sake of some political/monetary gain.
Unless and until Delta (and I have close friends that work for them), DICKS or ANY of these other "businesses"/ entities start running their outfits in compliance with THE CONSTIUTION FIRST!...They can ALL go EAT SHIT and..........never mind.
I TOTALLY APPLAUD THIS GOVERNOR!! We NEED many more like him.......MONETARY LOSS/GAIN BE DAMNED!

Actually, the State of Georgia giving Delta Airlines a fuel tax break is government picking a winner. Why not just lower the fuel tax so that all Airlines using Hartsfield Jackson International Airport will benefit? This bill was not popular with many republicans in the Georgia House and Senate for the above reason but it would have passed. Casey Cagle opposed this tax break for Delta alone and, being a crafty politician, used Delta's foolish and insignificant stand against the NRA to shift the vote and tank the legislation. Smart - and pretty much all there is to it. Delta will survive and remain at Hartsfield Jackson, Georgia will keep the tax dollars to blow on some worthless boondoggle, and no ones mind is changed one way or the other. Wheeling and dealing as usual and one more tempest in a teapot.

Nope. "Additionally, a Delta Air Lines spokesman confirmed only 13 members of the National Rifle Association bought discounted tickets using a perk later withdrawn by the airline following the school massacre in Florida. Delta spokesman Trebor Banstetter said Friday the discounted fares had been available for a short time and were only for NRA members purchasing flights to the group's 2018 convention in Dallas."

If you have some evidence that USA Today, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the Chicago Tribune do not have, please share. Plus, the discount was for the NRA convention, not the RNC convention.

Edit: On the upside, you got a "like" from JRS -- the same guy who inflated the economic impact of Delta in Georgia by a factor of 10 earlier in this thread, and still hasn't acknowledged his error. ;)
