Fiber Laser Settings

I purchased a new 60w fiber laser from Cloudray to start engraving the barrels I’ve been chambering.

I’m really struggling with the settings for deep engraving stainless. I was hoping someone could help me out if you are running ezcad2 software.

Thanks!

Hey FM. Following this too. I want to follow in your footsteps soon. Inserted below is a link to a YouTube video that is not a How-To but gives some great clues around the 11 minute mark. The presenter also references another YouTuber that sounds like an expert.

Hope this helps a little...

MOPA or Q switched? I know one is more expensive and better for stainless... but i don't know how much it matters for what we want to do.

You need to add the cross hatch to add body to the writing. The longer it runs the deeper it gets. 3-5 minutes is what I let it run.

Thanks Walt! Would you have a pic of your ezcad setting for a typical barrel engraving?

Computers aren’t my strong point, and this has been driving me crazy!

You’ll have to play with your number of loops and hatch settings. Every laser is a little different. a 45° and a -45° work well for me on steel engraving, a single 90° for annealing steel, a single 0° works best the Glock polymer settings engrave and clean up. Definitely don’t take these as gospel just changing your focus +/- 3mm will can drastically change things. my laser has a stepper motor on the z axis so when I deep engrave it will keep itself in focus. If yours is manual you’ll need to listen to it and adjust your focus as you cut deeper. I’d encourage you to join the laser everything discord server it’s like 8 bucks a month. I go a little more in-depth on some of my settings and how I do my slide wraps. I’ve not been on in a long time you can search my user name (KS505 or Killswitch505) there might even be some better stuff on the server now.

That’s awesome! Thank you! I’ll play with it some more later today after the work is done. Hopefully I’ll make some progress.

If you have any issue shoot me a pm and I’ll send you my number. what lenses did you get? I would highly recommend 70x70 100x100 and 200x200. 70x70 might seem small but it offers the most power. If you need an odd ball shim to time a muzzle brake and you want it to perfectly match your barrel diameter is where the 70x70 shines I don’t even stock shims anymore I just laser them out. Making lightning cuts on slides blah blah blah. The 200x200 is what tends to stay on the machine the most. You could make a decent living with the laser itself. I don’t really use mine for anything more than my NFA stuff. I wish my kids had some hustle in them they’d be rich just doing yeti cups and BS like that.

@FireMedic How's progress been?

Got my yearly bonus check... and this is in my sights....

Being able to do colors in stainless kinda has me drooling....

Colors can be hit more miss. I’ve been playing with my 80w mopa for a couple weeks now. I’d get Ezcad2 and then plan on getting Lightburn
