FFP MOA varmint scopes

Last PD season I shoot with mostly SFP MOA scopes but my favorite was a FFP mil/mil 3-18 Bushnell. In the groups opinion would you go w Mills or MOA? And which in this scenario of shooting PD’s would you prefer for ranging. I’ll be shooting a 20 practical 3-400 yds max.

The scope on top of my list is the Bushnell Veracity 6.5-20 ballistic plex E1 varmint reticle

I have a couple FFP Monstrum that are 1/4 MOA per click and milirad graduated reticle.

Another one to consider would be a Trijicon Ten Mile 3-18. They have a MOA FFP version, I have one and it is great

I run Minox ZP5 w/MR4 Christmas tree reticles in mils for my rat rifles. FFP in mils, once you make the transition to mils it is really is more intuitive, just move the decimal point.

I shoot moa just because I am already familiar with it and I mostly shoot alone. If all your buddies shoot mil and you have no preference, get mil. Its probably easier. For a lower priced scope I like athlon. I also like tract.

I swore I’d never buy a Chinese scope but the Ares series tic’s a lot of the boxes for me. I like the APLRS reticle. I’m also thinking about moving the Bushnell LRT to the 20P and put that Ares on my 260AI

Yeah I refused to buy a chinese scope for a long time too. I have an ares btr gen 2. Great for the price. I also have a midas tac 6-24 and a rimfire scope. All have been excellent. I also have a couple tract and a razor LHT. I like the athlon better than the razor.

The reticle is thick enough that at 400 yds it covers most of the pd. I've shot them out to 700 with both Ares with no problems. I suspect a Midas would also be excellent.

I like MOA because my brain thinks in inches per hundred yards. I also like that 1/4 moa is a smaller adjustment than .1 mil, but realistically that's not all that important when using the reticle for holdover. I also don't use my reticle to range things. I range things by eye and then use the reticle for corrections.

Like Lefty my brain also tends to think in inches but my thinking is that by using mils I could become better at ranging. I also have to keep in mind this is PD shooting and should be fun and not a science experiment. Lefty makes some good points, I should add

I’m keeping an eye on this one as well but haven’t seen many recent reviews. I’ll keep looking though. I’ve had several sightron’s in the past and found them to be “OK”…..

I remember when I posted about ffp for pdogs years ago (and how awesome it was) and people acted like I was a heretic.

I have several of the LEUPOLD LRP with the 30 Moa reticle. The Christmas tree reticle is the one to get. It needs to have the dots left and right not just on the cross hair imo.

I prefer mils because the math is a little more straightforward. But I think you will be disappointed with the results of using the reticle to range PD!

I hunt a lot of varmints and predators and I am a SFP scope user and MOA guy. I like to keep things as simple as possible especially for my old brain. I never felt disadvantage using SFP MOA scopes. When I miss it's because of me, the wind or mirage.

One of my fellow shooters at the range has a FFP scope, the reticle changes size when he changes the power setting - gets larger with increasing the power. How does that work on varmints with small vital areas? That would drive me nuts but so do a lot of these "new age" shooting philosophies.

I shoot pd's every week and more in the spring. You probably couldn't imagine how many I've shot in my life. The Burris Veracity E3 on my 204R is my absolute favorite.
