FF 6PPC ?

When FF 220 brass to 6PPC 262 neck do you suggest trimming necks to size before or after FFing. I would think before but I would like to hear from others before I act......Thanks

Rick

You may know this. I'm guessing you do. To trim after you will have to form with cream of whet or some other filler and no bullet. Or have a FF barrel you don't mind to run a .22 bullet down.

I buy my brass already necked up and trimmed. I found I'm not to good at trimming I was getting to much variance.

I maybe way off subject as I re read the OP. Are you talking about trimming to length?
The mentioning of FF has thrown me. I think

Simple process
1) Expand neck from 22 to 6
2) Trim necks to whatever diameter needed
3) Deburr in and out
4) Trim brass to length after fireforming is completed (with 6mm not 22 as stated by Tim)
5) Drive yourself crazy trying to shoot the perfect group/score/agg

Have fun

I do as PA Jeep, except I trim to length after the second firing. I measured my cases yesterday after the first firing and all were around 1.494" +/- .002.

Thank you for the response. A dedicated FF chambered 6PPC barrel by my reamer. Put a junk 22 bullet in the 220 brass with an adequate load of powder......Then POP.... Formed to my chamber 6PPC brass. I thought to neck turn before the POP because after I would just have to turn the necks then POP again. I turn necks for 2 other chamberings and don't find it burdensome.

A lot of guys FF this way . the problem with turning before is the 22 cal condition the brass is in. If you do, leave at least .001 or more over what you want for it to blow out. Most that I know that use this methid don't turn they are FF for a no turn neck chambers

Use a dedicated FF bbl (mine is .268) then turn as required for .262 comp bbl (both by OCock)

Id say mine may need a slight trim after 6-7firings. By that time im on new brass anyway. I run em in a giraud after each firing and it may only touch every few times. They dont need trimmed as much as youd think. I figure gary has a 1.510 trim length chamber like most. With good dies its hard to get em that long
