Feeding cattle has it's rewards!

Been in the deer stand for 5 days and hadn't seen anything big enough to shoot and was feeling like this wasn't going to be a good year. Grandson killed a 9pt and my son had a real nice 10pt and I was sucking hind tit. Took off from hunting this morning and fed cattle early and this one came out chasing 5 does. Little BRA truck gun that Mike Davis built for me and 90gr Sierra game changers dropped him instantly at 250yds...14159.jpegIMG_20221123_074734092.jpg John

A few years ago, when I was still hunting daily, I would drive my truck into the field and the deer would head for the hills, then one day the farmer drove his truck in and they didn't move a step. It all comes down to what they are used too.
Nice deer.

^ this. One year I drove my farm truck to the edge of a field to deer hunt. There were several deer in the field but not the one I was looking for. It had been a long night at work and I soon fell asleep, even with the window open. Woke up an hour later with a doe about a foot away wondering what this "thing" was doing.

This makes me remember my father’s best deer hunting story. I’ll set the scene: At the time, he owned 200 wooded acres. The house was on a hill and was surrounded by a low stone wall. Beyond the wall, the hill dropped off in lawn for 150 feet before the woods started.
Dad had invited two friends over for an afternoon/evening hunt. He got stuck in a business meeting so he told his friends to go ahead and he’d catch up. Dad’s meeting finally ended about 4. He said he grabbed a cup of coffee, his gun and went out back and sat on the stone wall to finish his coffee before going into the woods. As he was sitting there, a nice 6 point buck wandered out of the woods and stood on the lawn. Dad put down his coffee, picked up his gun, shot the buck , put down his gun and finished his coffee.

Joshb, your story reminds me of my most successful hunt. similar story except I took a seat at a shooting bench at the local gun club and poured a cup of coffee and out walked a deer between the 200 and 300 yard targets. Aimed 3" hi above the heart. very convenient.

I once put a feeding doe decoy in a field 100yds out from the tree line. I had no idea what to expect. Soon as Sun-up a slick head buck came inspecting the decoy. Blasted him and he piled up 15yds from the decoy. 2-3 minutes later an 8 point buck come out from the tree line grunting with every step. He was about to mount the decoy and I blasted him. He was DRT a few feet from the decoy. 2-3 minutes later a 9 point buck came out the tree line grunting and then poking at the dead 8 point, like "Wake up. buddy". I let the 9 point walk off to save a possibility for the wife to shoot out of her blind.

Now, when I shot the 8 point I just got my muzzleloader reloaded and had my muffs off. I was a bit surprised at the arrival of the 8 point. When I shot, I lit the blind on fire. I apparently didn't get my muzzle far enough out the window and my ears were ringing and half deaf! I was patting out the fire, clearing the smoke, and reloading the gun when the 9 pointer showed up! What a clown circus I was!

Those 90 gr. Game changers are a good bullet, all the mule deer we've taken with them don't go far if they don't don't drop on the spot.

Yes they are. I've been using the 108 elite hunter in my 6CM which is my regular deer rifle but I didn't have enough of them to waste for my little truck gun and it absolutely loved the 90SGCs and it puts them 1&1/2" or less at 300yds so planning on picking up a couple of yearling fryers for my wife I figured on neck shooting them and seeing how they did. It went through the first shoulder blade, spine, off shoulder blade and the jacket lodged against the hide on the off side,IMG_20221124_143141048.jpgIMG_20221124_143119595.jpg I was impressed! Now for the rest of the story... coming back home after taking the first one to the guy who puts up our meat I see this one chasing another doe14202.jpeg I'm through for the year! This one was 324 yds and I'll have the bullet tomorrow and let you know, but I am impressed with the little 90gr SGC... John
