Federal small rifle AR primers

I do not know this to be a fact but I suspect that the paint on these and other primers serves at least two purposes. First is identification and the second is most probably a visual inspection indication.

Could be. These cups have "AR" stamped on them too... just off center of where the firing pin would strike.
 
I purchased the Fed 205M AR primers as they trickled in the my local farm store, as an alternative to R7.5 (want to save them for bolt guns)in my 20p upper. They have performed well, no ftf, and at night hunting distance(coyote) I see no difference in poi. Didn't even change charge weight(exterminator).
