Federal Gold Medal Ultra Match

I have not shot any of the modern Federal Ultra Match and am curious as to it's general accuracy... Any recent reports on this ammo?

Are they even produced any more?

I bought some several years ago (still have some left) and out of my gun their performance was consistently outstanding. Like as good or better than Lapua Midas or Tenex.

My particular batch was produced in Germany and I think later batches were done in the US. The US production wasn't as good as the one's done in Germany, from what I heard.

Not sure what you are asking about. There was UM1 federal (with dimple) and UM22 as Federal gold metal ultra match. There is currently 711b which is gold metal match at 7.99 a 50 rd box but I have never shot any of them. Champions shows 711b in stock for 6.50 a 50 rd box.

Yep, that was what they had made by RWS in Germany from 2009-2015. The original Federal made Ultra Match had the dimpled cases and was made by Federal until 2004. If you want the equivalent, you can try the RWS R50 which some say was what Federal repackaged as Ultra Match.

Yeah, my R50 results were not really distinguishbely different from that Ultra Match. I've always suspected they were the same, just branded differently for Federal.

Whidden Gunworks just got a new shipment of RWS Rifle Match. It has shot very good for me in the past. You might want to give it a try.

I had some of that Federal dimpled ammo about 20 years ago and recall it shot pretty well. Note, I did have somewhat lower standards then for .22 ammo. The 711b at that time frame shot about the same for less money. 711a did not shoot well at all for me or anyone else I know that tried it back then.

Federal GMM 711b is just practice grade ammo, IMO. My rifle shoot it pretty good, but it isn't up to SK Rifle Match and I think Standard+ is consistently more accurate than Fed 771b

All of my UM22 also carries a F headstamp. Typically this would indicate that Federal supplied primed cases to RWS to load. As others have said, it shoots like R50 for me.

Guess i am remembering the Norma stuff that has the RWS stamp. Sorry for the confusion

I have about a case and a half of UM22 (three different lots) and a few bricks of UM1. I haven’t shot any of the UM1. I’ve shot two lots of the UM22. One of them is pretty good. It’s a little fast. I like to shoot it for Long Range. It’s no better than a good lot of CX or Midas+ at 50 yards IMO.

When you open a box one end flap will have R50_Stanze on it. That tells me it's R50, not sure what Stanze means in German. At the time Target Sports USA was closing it out at $600 a case shipped no tax. I'm down to my last box from the case I bought.

Stanze means die or punch in German.
