Federal ceases some ammo production

Federal ceased production of their 922A Gold Medal Match (the one I use) and the equivalent HV match ammo. Now they are only producing the cheaper 719 and 711B. I contacted them and they said "lack of sales" was the reason.

They put a brick out on the shelf at my local academy. Ive been watching it for quite a while and not a single box has been sold

May have to do with how plentiful .22 lr is right now... The majority of people don't buy real match grade .22 , if there's a box of blazer for $2.89 right next to a $10 , $15 box of actual match they will take the cheaper because they don't know any better or as long as it shoots minute of can is all they care about...

That and Federal has been making some rather crappy “match ammo” lately. I remember the days when Federal Ultra Match shot as well as Eley Tenex...sigh.

I have 8 boxes of the old UM1 stashed away. Remember the dimpled case heads? Federal won the Olympics with that ammo. Heck, in the 1990’s I had an Anschutz that would shoot the old Federal Lightning cheapo stuff into less than an inch at 100 yards (at 99 cents per box).

Federal can make awesome rimfire ammo but these days they’ve decided to slack off.

I shot some federal gold medal target , not match but target I found in my .22 ammo can... 4 boxes of the absolute worst shooting .22 ammo I ever fired... I thought something went terribly wrong with the rifle... It grouped the size of your open hand barely at 50 yards.... Lucky I had a box of some cci-sv in my rifle case or I would have been taking the rifle apart when I got home... I threw the rest of that open box in the garbage at the range and fired the other three in an old cowboy six shooter... It was the worst ammo I have ever shot in anything.... I know it's not their match but it would be a challenge to hold minute of rabbit with that crap... I went home and took out the rest of the ammo out of that fat fifty can to make sure there was no more..
