fed small pistol primers

will a federal small pistol primers work for a small rifle, what is the differance?
local gun shop has only about 30 cases, hoping it will. running low a small rifle.

Small pistol primers have a thinner cup than small rifle. They are dimensionally the same but should not be considered generally interchangeable. There are a few exceptions such as small pistol magnum primers in .218 Bee, .22 Hornet, etc.
