Fed Gold Medal LR primers in .280AI or 30-06 derivatives

G’day everyone

Has anyone used Fed Gold medal Large Rifle primers in .280AI or a similar 30-06 derivative case? I’m currently using CCI LR magnum but have Fed gold medal on hand that I was wondering about as an alternative.

Just wasn’t sure if it would work or even work well.

Thanks in advance

Magnum primers light ball powder a bit better, but if you use stick powders standard primers are more often used. I use Fed 215G magnum primers for both 7mm RSAUM and 338LM because there is more powder to light than .30-06. There is a big difference between 40-odd grains in .30-06 and the 90 or more the .338 burns. 7 RSAUM is in between burning around 60 grains.

They should work fine.
If you have a load already built around a different/standard primer drop a few grains and work back up to velocity and accuracy level.
I'm using CCI200,and WLRP I'm my 06'
Running 55.8 56.4 gr h4350 depending on case.
Rl22 I'm loading as high as 60gr.
These loads are with 180/185 gr bullets.

Federal large rifle match is all I use in my 280AI. Shooting H4831. I have not had any issues with accuracy at all.

Thanks everyone. Was keen to get some advice on this and I appreciate the information.

My first foray into the big rifle cartridges and I’m very much still learning them. My load at moment is 58.2gn ADI2213SC behind a 168gn HPBT. Will have to do some load work with Fed primers
