running the np2dd reticle on two NF scopes. ordering a new 2014 comp model and debating about switching to the fcr-1. The more i shoot the 2dd I'm starting to think it just a little to big, but the fcr seems very thin....whos using the fcr-1 and how do u like it?
Love the 2DD. I dearly wish it was available as is, unchanged, in the Comp scopes. <sigh>
I have a CTR-2... only because I couldn't get a CTR-1. There is such a thing as *too* fine of a reticle... I personally have problems seeing super-fine reticles (like the CH-3) against black targets, especially if its dark/overcast and there's a lot of pasters in the center. Never have had a problem with the 2DD
I settled on the NP-R2 because at the power I shoot at, the useless hash marks are out of the way & the cross hairs are thick enough for all conditions that I experience while being thin enough to be able to lay a precise aim.
No, I've not used that one. My main gripe about the FCR-1 is that against a black bull in certain lighting conditions, it takes a little more concentration to pick it out. It's not crazy thin, but it's not exactly thick. Makes me wonder if a target dot version would be useful. I like having the MOA tick marks to help get sighters dialed in, but I miss a plain target dot's clarity.
Overall though, the '14 NF Comp is a really nice scope. I used it all last season.
I agree with damoncali's comments regarding the fine lines.
I shot a 2014 FCR-1 the entire 2014 season and it will be my no #1 scope this year. Yes, the reticle lines could be a wee bit thicker, but I have not had a problem. Season before was with the March 8x80 with the same 1 moa reticle. Still have 2 NF BR scopes one plain CH-1 and the other the NP-2DD. I like the lines. Fine or not, just fits my eye. The NP-2DD is always just in a back-up roll.
The NF comp is a great scope with very good glass, side by side, clearer and brighter than the March 8 X 80.
Reticle is a simple matter of choice. What looks right to you. You can't go wrong with either. Just ask some of the shooters to take a peak thru theirs.
