Favorite gun/shooting writer

I think that was meant to be a joke but hippo attacks kill more people than any other animal. I think Capstick was concerned about lions.
As was my comment, a tongue in cheek poke at the dangers of a good prayer meeting ;)

Back in my youth Craig Boddington's big game hunts were always a must read. Rick Jamison was at the top of the list for handloading. Finn Agaard always had a common sense no BS approach that taught me a lot. Even though I didn't do much with handguns, Bob Milek was a good read. Later on I discovered Capstick and bought a bunch of his books.

Many of the 'gun and outdoor' writers were very well educated, some were professors. Gene Hill (Harvard U.) Cory Ford (Columbia U.) and Gordon McQuarrie are my favorites outdoor writers. One of the very best writers on rifles is Wayne van Zwoll, PHD. he writes in the Rocky Mtn. Elk magazine and has many, many articles and books out there. Cory Ford and the "Lower Forty" can put a smile on my face and a tear in my eye, the same for many of Gene Hill's stories. Gordon McQuarrie's stories of the "Old Duck Hunters, Inc. (incorrigible) " are just wonderful. Many of these are still available with a little searching. In my opinion many of the 'outdoor' mags have gone way down hill, I don't subscribe to any of them. I do like John Barsness.
