Sierra will supposedly be doing a run of 80 smk's around December timeframe. In my experience the 80gr ELD has done the best. I've only shot the 80.5 Berger and the 80 ELD. Still have some VLDs to try. The 75gr ELD is very hard to beat in a 223 though. Still haven't found any 80gr SMKs.
I have not been good at guessing the time lag between things like bullets or powder being announced by reliable sources, and the time it takes for them to get to where we can buy them. I learned to use those third party notification services to jump on things that were hard to get. I keep a decent buffer of SMK 80's but it will be time to back that up. My guess is we won't see those till spring.Sierra will supposedly be doing a run of 80 smk's around December timeframe.
Time will tell. This is info I got from my teammate that is stationed at whiteman right around the corner from Sierra and that is what they told himI have not been good at guessing the time lag between things like bullets or powder being announced by reliable sources, and the time it takes for them to get to where we can buy them. I still shoot the 80 AMAX's. Very accurate easily tuned and the price was rightStill shooting those 600ct boxes of 80 Amax...bought up a ton of them before they disappeared. Also love shooting the new factory pointed 80smk.
IMO I have found that Berger 80.5 and the 82’s are among the most accurate out of my rifles. When I shot XTC, Sierra 80 SMK’s work just fine on a MR-1 target.
Berger 80.5 Full Bore, SMK80 with the tips pointed, NOT TMK. Moved to Berger 80.5's after running out of SMK80 and have not looked back.
Do not forget the 75 and 80 ELDM too
80.5 Berger Fullbore.
Here is my data for 75 ELD's that shoot one hole with both Varget and H4895...both 0.015 off the lands
Here's my data with 80 Amax (my favorite bullet in my 223 bolt gun)
I had too many variations between lots with the 75g ELDM.Those 75 eldm are hard to beat. And they blow up on pdogs too. And they are cheap.
Berger better watch out they are going to lose a lot of customers. Of course, I don't think they care.
Blue Collar Reloading has 80sBerger 80 VLD .............. when I can find them
Second 75 grain ELDM
Problem is i am not in the usBlue Collar Reloading has 80s
