Favorite 6MM Build

If you were building a new 6mm rig for mid range shooting, and good brass was readily available (without having to fireform to shape the brass), what caliber would you build.

Here are some options:

6BR
6BRX
6Dasher
6XC

Let's make the assumption that factory brass for all of the above was readily available.

I am sure there will be others, but the above are just examples. If you care to, please explain your reasoning.
Thanks.

Shiraz,
Both the 6 Dasher and 6BRX require fireforming, since in your post you reflected a desire to not fireform they are kind of out. With that in mind of the 2 left I would pick the 6BR just because I have more experience with it. I have shot a 6mm Creedmoor a lot which is close to the 6XC, Creedmoor has slightly more case capacity.
I have done well with a 6mm Creedmoor but it is more finicky than the 6mm Dasher which I shoot more now than the 6mm Creedmoor.

Since you said the four were examples, I would like to add the 6SLR. Plain old 243 brass, run it thru the die, and go shoot. Longer neck than the 243 and a 30 degree shoulder.

Strictly from a competition standpoint -

6 Dasher - presuming someone made brass for it :)

For a couple of reasons

1 - The 6XC, 6-6.5x47, etc...made great sense when comparing the old 105vld to the 115 DTACs and the 115 VLDs. Since the introduction of the 105 hybrid its really hard (at least for me) to see the advantages that the larger 6mm cartridges have over the Dasher. I'm thinking of the whole thing holistically.

2 - The Dasher (other than fire forming) is a VERY forgiving round, can push the 105 hybrid to a perfect velocity, and has the BR records to back it up.

3 - Cheaper to shoot (I think)

Not trying to knock all the other 6mm rounds that are out there, but the Dasher is very hard to beat (I miss mine).

Are you basically saying that your possibly interested in having brass made for some of these calibers? The one I would like to see is lapua made 6ppc.I also think the dasher and 6xc would be good choices to get ready to go brass.

Provided the brass is made by Lapua or RWS hands down the 6 Dasher. Any other company and I would need to try out the brass before giving it the nod. I am sure it would be easier to talk a mfg. into making 6BRX brass than Dasher though because of the milder shoulder.

You did state mid-range, but did not clarify hunting game or for serious target shooting. For me, I prefer the 6 Dasher for target and varmint. If for mid-size game with accuracy and energy, then I choose 6mm SLR. Both of these cartridges have long necks, are very efficient and are extremely accurate.

Shiraz, I still love the 6mmBR, especially for new shooters. However, Port Malabar Rifle & Pistol has several competitors trying the 6SLR and the 6CM. They are INCREDIBLY accurate. The jury is out on how long the barrels will last but don't discount them.

I would prefer the Dasher brass but would consider switching to a BRX if the brass was already made. But would definetely vote for the Dasher.

Look at the 6-6.5X47 L. Good brass, neck down can be a single pass in a 6mm BR die. My reamer is on order. I am going to neck turn.
