Favorite 6 Dasher varmit loads

Looking for varmit loads for 65-75 gr. bullets

After doing a lot of research here and elsewhere, I've just used the loads in the Sierra reloading manual for the 6br and added 3.5 grains more. I have a 100 yd target taped to my shop wall with a 5 shot group of .241 all horizontal, using 32.5gr of aa2015 with Nosler 70gr. BT bullets. With a,self) hand lapped Adams & Bennet 1-10 twist $70.00 barrel.

Most folks dont use the dasher for varmint shooting. At least i would assume. To much work involved in making proper formed cases. I would also have to think that most folks that have dashers will have a 1-8 twist barrel so the use of lighter varmint type bullets wouldnt make a lot of since. Dont get me wrong, I love the dasher as it is my favorite, well second favorite cartridge right behind the 30BR.,Man that 30Br is awesomely accurate) The dasher would make a great varmint rife if you had two identical chambers in two different rifles. you could use the varmint to form cases with. I guess what i am trying to say is that you most likely wont find much info for varmint loads and the dasher. However it isn't to hard to figure out either. Start with max 6br recipes and work your way up. The 87gr v-max would be were i would start with a little varget, say 32gr.. Good luck and let us know what you come up with. Lee

IIRC, the Dasher was used,and possibly created) for varminting long before punching 105-108gr bullets down a long 1-8' twist came into vogue.

I've seen people win 500-600yd F-class matches shooting fireforming loads from a Dasher... they are certainly accurate enough to use on live varmints at similar distances.

I've shot several semi loads of prairie dogs with my 6 Dashers and 55 grain Ballistic Tips and VV-133 in 14 twists. So anything along the speeds of VV-135 should work just fine. I've since moved up to the 70 grain Blitzkings too, and found 133 and 322 a bit fast. I'm now using the old AA-2230-C powder,same as the regular AA-2460)cause I've got a butt load of it. Not quite as painful to load when you shoot over 4000 rds. a year at dogs. Plus, I fire form all my match brass in the prairie dog fields first.

I built my Dasher specifically for Varmint hunting. I use the Berger 95gr VLDs which I know are overkill but last May I out shot my partner using the heavier bullets as they just flat out slice through the wind where his lighter 55-70 grainers moved all over the place. When your out on the Prairie the winds can move about at 30mph and the extra weight makes for effortless shooting.

My load is the following

Berger 95 VLD
32gr RL15
Lapua Brass
CCI 450
set .010 off the lands
velocity 3201

Shoots extremely accurate out to 600 yrd Prairie Dogs

Yes it's a Browning B78 that start life as an original 6mm Remington and was completely rebuilt.

Yeah, I love the gun. I have a few other varmint rigs I have built over the past 10 years but this one is my favorite for both style and accuracy.

It took nearly an entire year for Kreiger to build me the barrel. They had to wait until they needed to retool before they would build me on Octagon Barrel. They told me it will be their first and last as it just cost too much money to build and tool up. However, it shoots incredibly well and I have to think a lot of it has to do with the octagon being much stiffer in harmonics than a standard round bull barrel. Also, I found it never gets hot. I think the extra surface area disperses heat much more efficiently than other barrel contours.

Sandy Garret did a fantastic job on the brake. I cant remember the number of hours he spent hand filing to get the contour from Octagon to round, but he did an incredibly seamless job.
