Favorite .257 varmint bullet

I've used Nosler and Sierra for years. One of the things I like about these topics is you learn about new bullet companies. Never heard of BIB, any more info on them?

Randy has changed his website. Call the number on his site and talk to him. He is a world of knowledge and experience. He hand swages .22, 6MM, 6.5MM, .257, and .30 caliber bullets in various weights and configurations. You can find pictures of some of his bullets in the Bulletin archives, along with testimonials from winners using his bullets.

Edit: If you are interested in the 25 caliber bullets, Randy makes an 88 grain bullet, and a 110 grain bullet. Bib Bullets is a very well known and respected name.

Living in Ohio I'm limited to using rifles for varmint hunting only. For 30+ years I've shot nothing but Sierra and Nosler bullets from 85 to 90 gr.

I probably have a lifetime supply of Nosler and Sierra bullets but am always open to try others. I do have a good amount of the Berger 115 gr VLD but I don't have much practical use for them as I no longer hunt larger game.

The 90 gr Sierra Blitzing has shown a lot of promise but I'll give Randy a call to see what he offers. Thanks.

Great post guys, love the 25 caliber.Had great fun busting woodchucks back east in New York state with the Sierra 90 grain hollow point from my
.25-06.Jon not sure if you shoot any 20 cals but Randy makes a nice 20 caliber bullet also.

Hello to all
2506ai 90grn Sierra blitz king, only used them on one trip ( very impressed )
Flat , accurate , violent,
Don't know what speed (3600 - up ? )
My usually bullet 80 ttsx ,(3800 +) but on the long haul I believe 90 bk were slightly flatter,
And considering we made up then load on arrival at the property (5 loads to find powder weight 3x3 to find bullet length ,
Accuracy was good, adi 2213 was all he had and all worked out well .
The violence of that bullet on wild dogs and crows was impressive to say the least !
Longest shot 300 yds ? No rangefinder
Young wild dog almost burst, but not as bad as the crow 250 yds
90grn blitz king would be worth a lOOk

Gentlemen, I have been trying to help my cousin with his 25-06. He's trying to shoot Hornady 117gr SST with either H4831 or Hybird 100V and CCI 200. His gun is a Marlin 22" sporter barrel with a 10 twist. These combinations so far produce just over one MOA at 100 yards. We could use a little help, I don't have any experience with the 25-06, I shoot the 257 Mini with Speer 87gr TNT with RL-15 and CCI 450.

Ron, 1:10" twist provides weak gyroscopic stability (Sg) for a bullet the length of the 117 Gr. SST (1.21" long): at sea-level, Std. conditions, and about 3300 FPS, MV, Sg is only about 1.2 - not "tumbling", but they're never, "going to sleep" . . . interesting - the OAL and Sg are both about 1.2!:D A strange coincidence! For Sg 1.5, this bullets needs about 1:9" twist rate.

You'll probably have better luck with a shorter bullet - look for something around 1.15" or, shorter. You'll probably need to go to a HP, or, "old school" PSP type bullet to get the mass/length combination best suited to the 1:10" twist. Or, a shorter/lighter Hornady. Good shootin'! RG

Why don't the factories (Ruger, Winchester, etc,) use 1 in 9 twist barrels on their 25-06 and 257 Roberts rifles? I could never get my old Ruger 77 ts to shoot any bullet over 100 grs worth a hoot. My 9 twist should be here the end of the month. I used the Hornady 100 gr IL on deer and coyotes with complete satisfaction. That bullet has been discontinued. Barlow
