Favorite .224 bullet under 55 gr~?

Another vote for the 40's. I use both Nosler ballistic tips and Hornady V-Max, both have always worked well on coyotes and both group well, accuracy wise any difference is minimal.

223 @ 3750 fps which is easily attainable with numerous powders

Any of the 50-55 grain plastic tipped bullets have worked well for me, with the edge going to the Sierra Blitz Kings. Also, the Berger 52 grain varmints are super accurate but don't do quite the damage of the plastic tips in my experience.

First is the 52 gn Sierra HPBT for accuracy. Second for me is the 50 gn TNT's. I have a box of Sierra 53's (flat base) but haven't tried them yet. My guns do not like the Hornady's with the exception being the 52 gn A-max. They shot tiny bug hole groups at mag length but they no longer make those. Not sure how the new ELD Match would be. They seem relatively inexpensive at 28$/100.

WOW~! I never thought of trying something that light. I'll guess I'll have to try some. Would you shoot something that light to kill a coyote!?
I used to know a fellow who regularly killed whitetails with the little 35 grain V-Max from a .22 Hornet, it's all about shot placement.
I have had great results in my .223 with the Sierra Blitz Kings in either 50 or 55 grain in my .223 TC Contender with a 14" barrel.

I've tried many, many .22 bullets over decades. For the last fifteen or so years, I've used only one in the common 1 in 12" or 1 in 14" twist guns like the .222, .223, .22-250 and the .220 Swift - the 50 grain Sierra Blitz. It's very accurate in everything and requires little load development work. If you're a coyote hunter, it works very well.

The Blitz KIng may also be a good one, but I've never had a reason to try it.

I used to use a 53 gr. Sierra Match King, simply because of the accuracy. I shot several coyotes with this bullet. About 50% of the time, the bullets worked. The rest of the time, well-hit coyotes ran off. The Match Kings are target bullets and Sierra doesn''t recommend them for game or varmints. I can see why. The 50 Blitz kills much better.

Colt45sa looks like you can you can run down the .224 isle and put just about any of them in the cart and they will shoot:)
I’ve had great results on squirrels with the 50 VMax, TNT’s/ 52 and 55 Bergers, 52 and 55 Sierras.
Accuracy at longer distances great results with Barts 52’s, Berger 52 and 55

Thanks to all of you who answered. Now I'm going to poll the answers to see which answers predominant and give them a try. This site is the greatest~!

I like the Hornady #2245 (50 gr Soft point) in my 222. It seems to meet my DRT requirements. Could be a fluke, but I'm sticking with it. Doesn't make a mess of a coyote but puts em down.
