I bought this Farley a while ago, and it was about 3rd hand.
Firstly I stripped it and cleaned it, then using the info posted by Butch I did the UHMW tape and bike grease job...and what an improvement!
But the front bag seems dodgy to me.
The original bag holder was a tad sad (damaged and worn), so I had a local alloy guy make a new one for me.
He made it 48mm wide to allow a bag to sit in there without the sewn base of the bag being 'folded' up.
But the bag itself may need work too.
It's been well packed hard in it's life. Was like a rock when I got it.
So hard packed it was distorted and had a round bum. Previous owner/s had glued in a shaped strip of wood to hold the bag square.
Is this distortion normal in a bag, or is mine needing to be chucked out and a new bag bought?
I have removed sand in hope of getting the base flatter, but it's all well stretched and rounded now.
To keep the current bag sort of flat and secure I've packed the front and rear with a strip of neoprene...and that works for now.
I could simply add in a strip of alloy front and rear to make the holder suit a standard size Farley bag (Edgewood or Protektor).
Anyway, what's your thoughts on the old bag? Do they all get a round bum? Is that bad, or normal?
3rd image shows how the wooden strip was fitted in the old holder...I don't use the strip in the new holder...this is just to show how it was. The bag had a way rounder bum...the 2nd image of the round bum is after I removed sand.
The whole setup feels 'sort of' OK now, and rifle shoots fine over it...but I'm not convinced. I think it could be better.
Thanks.
