Do you think anyone shoots for record with new unfired brass as in the 1st fireforming step?
I shot a 5 shot group, .069 at 100yd with one of my new rifles while fireforming, never to be seen again lol.

have a good day.

Of course they do:

Virgin brass will shoot quite well if properly prepped. To obtain the neck tension I want, I typically open the necks of virgin brass with an oversized expander mandrel (~.001" under bullet diameter), size them back down using an FL die with the appropriate bushing for ~.002" interference fit. The shoulders are not pushed back by the second step, but the necks are sized just as with fire-formed brass.

If the brass is not "formed" into something else i.e. 6mmBR into Dasher or .260 Rem. into .260 A.I., if you turn the necks, anneal the necks, use a mandrel and then just prior to loading swab the inside of the neck out with Imperial Dry Neck Lube, it will shoot just as well as "fireformed" brass.

I took virgin Alpha Munitions brass to the F class nationals last year. Straight outta the box and loaded it. Shot a 200-9x (so thats a 20 shot group, under 10") In a separate vertical test, 40 shots, 30 out of the 40 sub 5" vertical, the other 10 stayed under 10." @1000 yards

I fireform .308 brass during a match. Why waste barrel life, bullets, etc. just to fireform? I have a competition load for it and shoot it at local club matches.
