I have a friend who went all the way to South Africa from the United States for a hunting trip and when he got there he realized he had left the bolt to his rifle on the coffee table back home.

Holy crap!!!!!

I forgot ammo on a deer hunt once. Lucky for me I had ONE loose round under my seat. Hunting trip saved.

Last week I grabbed a copy of a bond instead of the original on a bid.Which resulted in a DQ costing me a 97K fence job ! It suks to suk.

I can understand forgetting to take your wife with you to the range, but not forgetting your rifle!

Forgot my shotgun one night for trap league and had to borrow one from the pro shop. Left the box magazine on the rifle vise after cleaning the rifle the night before a F-class match, had to carefully load each round into the chamber.

Forgot my rear bag on a varmint hunt once but improvised

Put a nice edge on my hunting knife then left it on the counter. Luckily I had my pocket knife on me to field dress a big mulie.

Some years back and not being old enough to use "forgetfulness" as an excuse, I set my compound bow in the roof of my vehicle while getting my other gear together. After all my gear was put in the vehicle, I got in and drove off. Took about 10 minutes before I heard something slide on the roof. Still not thinking about it kept driving. Another 5 minutes it hit home that I put the bow on the roof and prayed it only slid but was still there. After stopping and no bow, I did a 180 and headed back. I located my bow in several pieces on the road already run over by numerous vehicles. Limbs broke, riser and cams broke. Pieces all over. Luckily I packed a back up bow and the arrows were packed away safe.

In February, I drove 80 miles to a monthly club match at El Paso...a week early.

The good part about getting old is; I had almost forgotten that I did that...till this thread dredged it up.

I thought I had a remedy to all of the previous stories. Load everything in a big tote except the rifle in a case, my range cart and pit bag. My shooting partner has a big truck so he would always drive. The morning of the start of the National matches at Camp Perry, we load up and drive 90 minutes to the match. As we started to unload I even made the comment that we were really getting good and stowing all our gear in the truck. (Seemed to have more room.) Yup, you guessed it. No tote!! 3 hours later I'm back at the match just in time for the pit change and to go to the line!!

One advantage to bringing 5 rifles to the range each time is that even if you forget a bolt or a box of ammo you still have a couple other rifles to shoot.

Like alot of ya'll, when I was a kid, I'd sling my .22 over my shoulder, dump a couple boxes of shells in my front pocket & hit the door running. Nowadays, I load up my rifle bag (stuffed to the gills), a range bag, folder of targets & notebook, chrony if I'm gathering data, ect, ect,....and still wonder if I'm forgetting anything.

I'm thinking I had it right to begin with.
