Falling Block Action Seating Depth

For the people who have used falling block actions (Ruger #1), have you seen any preference for jump vs jam with your accurate loads?

The #1 is same as anything else other than best be sure that your thumb is mean enough to “soft seat” the bullet deep enough that the breach block is able to rise back up clearing the case head as it returns to battery.

+1 I have not found it necessary to "jam" the bullets in any of my falling blocks and if you inadvertently try to close the action on a case not properly seated it will do BAD things to your brass. dedogs

Loads that were accurate in my various #1s started with a free-floating the barrel and glass bedding the 1) forearm hanger tip and 2) the rear of the forearm and action contact point. Much of the potential of the #1s had a lot to do with the date of manufacture. When Ruger began hammer forging their barrels their accuracy improved by leaps and bounds. Beyond that working up a load as per normal. I have never jammed any bullets but VLDs and do not shoot those any more as the newer Hybrids and long ogive bullets make them unnecessary. I tried the Speed-loc hammer and it worked fine but I did not really see any benefit on paper. Better triggers on the other hand made a big difference to me.
