I think I have it figured out... but I need a 'test subject'. If some one has a glorified peace of scrap that resembles a short action Stevens or savage I can get cheap.. let me know. I still don't want to irreversibly alter a good one.

You may want to take a look at the CZ magazines. It looks like they do a single stack 308 magazine. You may have to figure the integration out yourself. I picked up one of the .223 magazines for building into a Savage with an aluminum stock that I machined. I wasn't big on the idea of opening up the receiver.

I'll look at that, I'm hesitant to do it, that's why the 'beater'), but I have several of these mags and think that being staggered will make them a little shorter.. If I get it to work I'll let everyone know, but I'll be real quiet if I cant...

I took a 1918 BAR magazine and cut it off in a band saw. and tig welded it onto a top half of a new model Savage FS116 magazine. It looked like hell but worked. I was shooting Berger 210s in a 308 seated into the next county.
