Have you ever wondered why firearms and ammunition costs so much lately?
A part of the most visible costs is the FAET tax. Depending on what you buy, you will pay 10% or 11% FEDERAL tax on these items. THIS IS AT THE MANUFACTURER'S LEVEL. This money is supposed to divided up amongst the states to be used towards various outdoors activities. Conservation programs and that type of thing. Some of these monies have found there way into anti-hunting and anti-shooting "programs". Y'all might want to look into that BTW. It can be an eye opener for sure.
You need to read the history of this tax.........
That is only ONE layer of taxes on firearms, ammo and outdoor equipment. That means that the MANUFACTURER will pass this tax to us directly as part of their expenses. No big deal you say. It goes back into the outdoor sports we all love at some point. Or, at least, it's supposed to.
That $100.00 box of bullets has $11.00 going to the Feds, state sales tax from the sale (mine is 10%) which is ANOTHER $10 plus any local taxes paid. THAT'S JUST THE TAXES YOU CAN EASILY SEE. So far, that box of bullets has $21.00 of OBVIOUS taxes on it. So now we're down to $79 for that same box of bullets.
Now, all the hidden taxes. If you've been in business, you know what's fixing to happen. FIRST, you become part of the tax collection process. An extension of the IRS and Treasury Dept. among several other tax agencies. Doesn't matter if you like it or not. You are FORCED into it. You're now an uncompensated government employee....the GOVERNMENT is your boss...Or, you don't go into business.
As a business owner, you have Licenses (another word for tax) Registrations (another word for tax) and possibly other fees (just another way to spell tax) all of which gets passed on to the customers. ADDING costs, but no value to the product. As a business owner, you must supply good and/or services to the customer.
For instance, when I was making barrels for a living, I first had to register with the state and feds....both cost me money which I passed to my customers. I then had to buy supplies, blanks, tooling, lathes, milling machines, buildings etc.....all of which gets divided up and passed on to the customer. ALL OF WHICH WAS TAXED PRIOR to when I bought it....then taxed AGAIN...and passed on to the CONSUMER. The people that I bought from also went through this same process. Who did the same before me. And the taxes go all the way to the very beginning of the product or service. TAXES upon TAXES until the final cost is absorbed by the CONSUMER.
It is estimated that the FULL AND FINAL TAXES AMOUNT TO 75% of our service or product.
Don't believe it? Read this: https://www.gold-eagle.com/article/how-many-taxes-do-you-really-pay
That means, that box of bullets..........should only cost about $25.00
Our Founding Fathers went to war over a 3% tax.
Do you think YOU own that piece of property that you worked so hard to pay for? Don't pay the property taxes on it AND THE REAL OWNER WILL TAKE IT FROM YOU and "lease" it to some one who will pay them.
A little something to think about as you file your taxes this year.
