Factory test targets...sign of thing to come?

Picked up a new CZ .17 Hornet yesterday. The 50 meter target has two holes overlapping and the third in left field. I’ve never paid attention to factory targets before and luckily the few bone stock rifles I own are good shooters. But I do wonder if it’s likely that this will be a 2 MOA gun.

Would love to hear your experience.

Was at the range last sunday with mine, 20gr. Hornady factory loads, .5-.75 moa, as long as wind was light, hand loading should be promising

I have 4 rifles that came with test targets - three Weatherby Vanguards and a Cooper. The Wby rifles shoot about what the test targets indicated even with hand loads. The Cooper shoots even better than the test target with hand loads.

I think a test target is a decent indicator, but not a guarantee either way. However if given a choice between two new rifles with test targets, I would certainly take the one with the smallest test group.

Josh B was talking about his CZ and said you will have no clue till it has 500rds through it.

I only had the 500 round thing with my CZ 455 rimfire barrels. The 527s and 550s settled in right away.

I had a Voere Titan in 270 Win, the test target showed three round clover leaf. I tested it with the same brand and type of ammo, 130 grain Winchester Silver tips. All three shots touched.. But that was 30 some years ago. Wow that kind of made me sad knowing that was 30 years ago.

My fault, I never think of CZs as centerfire rifles they make such good 22 rifles.

Their centerfires are good factory rifles as well. I’ve heard of a few bad experiences, but most people who buy one eventually own more.

A guy that works at the range in the gun shop bought a 7mm Weatherby that has about a .3 target that came with it and was very excited(I think they branded the ones that shot less that 1/2" something special), got it scoped up and could hardly get on paper. Rescoped it, checked bedding, floated, loose rails, etc. tried 5 different Weatherby ammos they had and still shot 12" groups from anyone who tried. Sent it back and it got rebarreled and shoots .7 at 100 with the best factory loads.
There is no way that gun shot the .3 target

I have 5 CZ rifles. IMO, the only thing a test target tells you is that the rifle was fired 3 times.

And the fact that most of the factory targets are shot at 43-50 yrds.
Only way to tell what your rifle will do is shoot it with rounds you work up, for the best grouping and results.
