Have any of you here used Factory Primed Brass,Remington 223)?
Pro's and Con's?
Do you know if Remington uses their 6 1/2 or 7 1/2 primers in their primed brass?

The big con is that you have to pay a hazmat fee for delivery. Also, I like to run my new brass through a full length sizind die and I ahte to have to take the depriming pin out, remember to always leave the 'core' to the depriming pin in as it resizes the necks on the way out when using standard dies.

The pro is that you get primers that seem to be non- existent of late.

I would doubt that they use BR primers,7 1/2) in their primed brass, but am not sure.

I've used them for my AR's, and F-Class Loads both Rem. and Fed. Match. I'd bet that Rem. does not use their BR primers, where I know that Fed. uses the Match in theirs as it says so on the 1000 round box. I think it was www.armsandammo.com that had the best price on these at one time, hard to tell now who is telling what they have in stock untill you call.

I never paid HAZ MAT on primed brass, its not the same as primers, it's not even on the DOT list as HAZMAT. This is the DOT list:

I dont know why the brass Mfg do this, except to get rid of primers they cant sell, or maybe there seconds. They know there selling the brass to reloaders, who like to use there own brand of primers. I always stay away from pre primed brass, but dont know why. It just rubs me the wrong way.
They may also be brass they sell to Ammo Mfg, but were left over.

It could be for a couple reasons: First, primers alone are considered hazardous, but when installed in a brass case, they can be shipped by standard methods without restriction. ,I know this sounds stupid, but it is far down the list of stupid thing now days) If the average reloader is buying brass and primers, they will save money buying the 'package'.

Second, convenience is very important to people. Preprimed brass may not work for the elite individuals, but for Joe Average, they work fine. I buy my .223 Rem. preprimed from www.Scharch.com and am very pleased. It may not be benchrest quality, but it works great for XC, F-class, prairie dogs, and Junior programs.

I think of it as making a cake from scratch or using a premixed box. The end result is the same, and most everyone can't tell the difference. My $.02.

If you want to use Remington brass, nothing wrong with getting it already primed. Don't worry, it won't be with primers they can't get rid of, or seconds....don't know where people get ideas like that. The 6-1/2 is a lower pressure primer and Remington knows this, they'd be using 7-1/2's. Also there's a 7-1/2 and a 7-1/2BR, I'm not even sure there's any real difference between them. And it looks like a couple guys actually do know what they're talking about with hazmat fees.

Some factory brass is primed because of the set-up used to make the brass. It's an assembly line type of operation. The case goes thru one step that verifies the existance of a flash hole and then seats the primer. The tooling would have to be changed to produce unprimed brass. Not all manufacturers use that type of operation for all cases.

Don't forget, the factories are geared to producing ammunition, not cases.

And primed cases can be shipped the same way as loaded ammo - UPS Ground. No hazmat fees.
