Factory Browning Micro Midas w/9twist in 22-250??

My brother was looking into the Browning Micro Midas rifle in 22-250 and noticed that it comes with a 9 twist barrel...this rifle is for a youth, as it has a 12.5" stock and the barrel is only 20" long...most 22-250's from the factory come with a 14 twist or 12 twist and thought it was strange that it comes from Browning with a 9 twist...most don't use the 22-250 for competition where you would shoot the heavier vld type bullets so why would Browning put a 9 twist in this caliber? Could it be because of the 20" barrel maybe not having enough length to stabilize "normal" 22-250 bullets with a 14 twist? What do you all think? Thanks

More likely because they intended it as a deer gun to shoot heavier bullets to be able to effect a merciful kill.

jonbearman, I wondered that also but didn't know how many states allowed a 22-250 for deer hunting and I haven't seen much for a factory available loading for the 22-250 with much heavier than a 55gr bullet...with those being varmint style bullets mostly...and also thought that would be such a "limited" market for Browning, making it in a 9 twist only. I think they did offer it in a 14 twist initially when this model came out but now it seems to only be available in a 9 twist according to Browning web site. I would have at least thought they would offer it in a couple of different twist rates. Thanks for the reply.

I'm with you Gene - a bit of a conundrum. I'm back in Jeffersonville, IN now. Maybe I'll get up your way sometime or see you at a shoot, bringing the 20 BR bbl....I purchased from you. I stayed over at Keith Candlers this week when returning from coastal SC. He has my 6BR doing 3/4" @ 300 in a pouring rain (shooting through a hatch). Outshooting a 6.5x47L working at 200 yds.....he got his bud's attention. Used 105 Bergers, Varget and 450s abt .008" off. He said it got boring at 200 so moved it out to 300. That boy can sure shoot.

I don't know about you but we had enough wind today to blow a high steppin' 7mm into the next tgt at 500. It was whuppin'.

I won't say I know what Browning is thinking but that 9 twist barrel will just about stabilize pretty much anything. There is an assortment of bullets out there for deer hunting, Nosler and Hornady come to mind. That Browning sounds like a pretty handy rifle.

Looks like the standard X-bolt is also offered in a 9 twist in the 22-250 as well.

As well as an 8 twist 223.

Glad to see they did this!

Hey TAJ45...boy, it has been a while. Have you put the barrel on anything yet? If anyone can get a rifle to shoot, Keith can sure do it. We had about 5" os snow the other day and with these warmer temps, it is now gone and yes, the wind today has been brutal. Glad to hear you are in Indiana and I might just take a trip south and look you up. And, if you do get up this way, be sure to get in touch.
