A 4 shot group. Wish i could afford to rebarrel . I found a McGowan 1 in 7 blank , hand lapped CM , for 179$ from there website . Is it worth what thay say thay are?

cjmac, a very nice group. I shoot a lot of .223 and this is just a suggestion, but have you tried the 53 SMK. At 100-200 yards a flat base bullet is hard to beat. I think you may be pleasantly surprised. 53 gr SMK, LT-32 which is about the same burn rate as Norma 200, DPMS 16" 1:9 barrel, 5 shots at 100 yards, one teeny tiny hole. I am hesitant to mention the group size, as my integrity has been attacked in past posts.

Try a couple of different powders and bullets...Heck looks like something as simple as a primer change could passably tighten your group. I have dang near given up on a rifle a time or two and would put it away for a bit...then get it back out and finally find what it liked. :)

Looks like your rifle has potential. Try different components. Mix & match components in the bullet weight/purpose you're after, just be methodical & keep good notes. Also, with this being a factory barrel, mind your shot intervals (barrel temps). Factory barrels will move from heat much more than most aftermarket barrels. Was the low shot #1 or #4?

The low shot was the first...... i think i will try the sierra 53 grain FB. I just hate working up another load. I think ill try them with benchmark and norma 200. I really wish i could get this IMR 8208 to work .

Its like the higher the charge the better the groups get with 8208. Im already half grain over max. Maby its not that good for light bullets

What charge weight are you using with the 8208? I have had good results with blc-2,h322,aa2230,h335,and ww748. You need to branch out with powder combo's a bit and the 53 grain sierra is a good choice.

When you said 20" barrel Remington SPS with 1:9 that sounds a lot like you may have one of their models with the "rubber" stock. If so, cut the front of the barrel channel out enough so the forend doesn't hit the barrel under recoil.

I have an SPS-Tac with 20 in bbl and when I changed the stock from the "flexible flyer" Hogue, to an H-S Precision (take off I had under the bench) I was able to get results like this.

ry%3D400

This was a test session with all charge weights being the same. Each target 5 rounds of different COAL's with the combo shot at center top row obviously the best.

Other than stock, nothing else was changed.

It did have the rubber stock.now it has a bell and carlson m40 stock . Am i expecting to much out of this factory barrel ? . Like i said i can get a McGowan 1 in 7 CM, hand lapped for $169 plus shipping.

I HAVE A SAVAGE MOD 11 22'' BARREL 1/9 IT LOVE 52GR AND REALLY LIKES 55GR TRY U SOME H-4895 MY LOAD IS 25.8GRS WSR SHOOTS IN THE .3'S ALL THE TIME / THE 55GR BARNES AND 55 GR VMAX'S

Well i have learned that my gun hates hornady bullets. I have often thought of just leaving this gun alone. The accuracy is pretty good for a factory gun. I would love to build a 6mm or 6.5 x 47 or creedmore. But being on a buget it would take a miracle. I think i could do it cheaper on a savage .

Mine did not like hornady bullets either. I had the best luck with sierra # 1345 and #1455 for powder it was H 4895 / varget and w 748

I think iv got some varget left ill try that. Havent seen any 4895 in a long time where im att

I don't think you've reached it's limit yet. Try some Berger 73 gr bullets. They are right at the max limit for weight in the average 1:9 barrel. You'll have both the benefit of a longer bullet so your jump won't be as long and the heavier bullet tends to buck the winds better.

That's become my bullet of choice for this barrel with the load and COAL shown on the target I posted.

When the barrel is shot out then put out the money for a new barrel.

I have a Remmy 700 5R. I tried lots of different combinations and got the same results you have. Then something magical happened at about 200 shots and all the groups started to tighten up. Still searching for the right combo, but I now have renewed hope for her.

Are you going to shoot squirrels with this rifle or compete where zero and teen groups take home the prizes? :)

There will be no competition for this gun. Most i will do with it will be coyote hunts and killing paper.
