Facing a tikka receiver

A couple questions. I am looking at getting the tapered part of a tikka t3 cut off and a barrel and recoil lug put on.
1. Can a barrel be cut with standard, non- metric threads that will fit? My gunsmith's lathe only does imperial threads.
2. My gunsmith questioned whether his lathe could hold the receiver. He was not sure if a 3 jaw chuck would hold it. How do the smiths that work on this receiver hold it?
Thanks everyone.

If your smith is using a 3 jaw to "true" with, run away. Every tikka I've cut was imperial, 16tpi.

My suggestion is to find a smith familiar with a Tikka action instead of telling one how to do the work. A lot can be lost in the translation.

The same truing jig I use for remingtons works with tikkas. Thet are standard thread and very hard. You need carbide to face them off.
