F-TR scope

Short answer is yes. What is your expectations for this rifle and what level of competition do you hope to get to?

I am just starting and I have been in only two matches but love it. I have a Bushnell Elite Tactical DMR 3.5-21 that I use now. At the last match at 600 yards I was only using 18X do to heavy mirage. I have bought a Leupold VX6 7-42X56 but it is on it second trip back for the same problem I hope to get a new one this time. At this time I have no trust in Leupold slow service and their ability to fix their own product. If the more the better I will look into a NightForce Competition

My opinion is yes. I gave up on Leupold some years back. I've owned 2 NF scopes since then and am extremely happy. I may try a SIII 10- 50 Sightron for my next scope, that or I'll just buy the 2014 NF Competition.

Like the 280man said "Yes" I have both the Nightforce 12x42 and the Sightron 10x50. I like them both. The mirage will dictate what power your comfortable with but on those perfect days it's nice to have that power available.

yes and no...

I cut my teeth on a NF 5.5-22 x 56 for two seasons because that's what I had (used over 300 - 1000)....I couldn't blame the scope on any wind calls which is where I both lost and won....

But at some point you will want to take advantage of the greater precision that a higher mag allows.

I was using a S&B 5x25 at first but increased the power on my new rifle and went with a March.

Conditions rarely allow me to use full power, but it is nice to have, as you can always dial back.

I got my NF Comp in and it looks funky on my XLR Element chassis I will have photos later

The only thing that looks funky is that red cap and inspection sticker. It's the equivalent of leaving the price tag in your window on a new car. :P
