F-TR mat/bag under bipod

Gentlemen,

Is sand filled bag/mat under the bipod legal to use in F-TR match?

My thought is, it will be heavy & stable but flexible (vs a "board") and can "follow" the contour of the ground & the feet of the bipod. It could be folded or rolled up too.

Say about 3/4" thick x 8" x 25", with non skid bottom & slick material (such as safety belt material) under the feet.

I suspect it would work very well but I'm not sure if this is okay/legal???

OK, thank you sir!

I'll make some prototypes & will check it if the idea is good or not.

3.4.1 (b)
(2)The use of any form of a table is prohibited. Separate flat boards or plates not exceeding the dimensions of the individual rests by two inches are allowed to be placed under the front and/or rear rests. In the case of a bipod, the board or plate may not exceed the width of the bipod by 2”, nor be more than 12” front to rear. See Rule 3.4.1(a)(1).

I asked same question about this as a shooter at the first match I shot had a sand bag under each ski of his bipod. And was told that was illegal

No sorry. That is what I was told by the match director at the Fl championship. It might go into effect 2014.

does anyone know if the 1/2 thick rules applies to the "carpet or materials" attached to the boards under the bipod?

Seb, I think it is a clever idea and well within the rules due to it being a SOFT item. The sand filler may have to be contained in pockets or partial partitions to keep it from shifting while you shoot and causing you to chase your elevation. It sounds like the perfect cure for uneven ground!

That's what I thought.
Combination between sand in pockets + sandwiched leather or neophrene + slick-tough material right under the feet could be great. Outer layer could be from tarpaulin material as it's tough & 'weather proof".
The idea is to make the 'mat' heavy/stable/not rocking even on firing line with pebbles like in Raton. That could probably solved by the sand partitions. I need to make some experiments though.
It is supposed to be an "all around" bipod's mat because I believe most mats/boards work just fine on soft firing line (grass for instance) or on a bench top. My concern is for firing line with lots of pebbles which act like roller bearings.
Problem is, if I make the sand partitions in incorrect 'division(?)' it would create 'rails' (V-groove) right under the feet....which might be a 'no-no'/illegal. I'll avoid that.

The interview with Derek Rodgers on the home page of this website has some pictures of his bipod resting on what looks like a cork mat. Anyone know if that is a cork mat or what it is?

Would a cork mat be legal? It would be flexible but not really able to be rolled up.
