F-Open RH Action Configuration?

What is your preferred action configuration for right hand F-Open? Load port size & location, ejector type (if any), eject direction, recoil lug style/ location, optical rail MOA, firing pin dia, trigger hanger or pinned, etc. I assume most are using .308 bolt faces, but correct me if I'm wrong. Also, what is a good "weight budget" for the action. Is it important to be able to remove a live round without removing the bolt?

I'm not looking to buy yet, just curious at this point. What I think makes sense from bench work probably doesn't apply to prone. Thanks!

I shoot rt bolt left port no eject. I have 3 set up that way. I like it but after shooting a buddy's drop port my next one will definitely be a drop port. Probably left load. You have to option of dropping it into your hand or on your mat. Very natural to use. At 22lbs max, weight is almost never an issue in Open. Lot's of extra diameter actions in use.

I’ve seen some right handed shooters going left bolt left port no eject so that their right hand never has to leave its grip on the rifle. I’d like to try that method before buying into it though

F-open here. I shoot with a spotting scope on the line with me viewing through it with my left eye while right eye is on the rifle scope. Thus I shoot RB/RP with no ejector. I use a Borden BRM-XD bottom lug with 30" straight 1.25" barrels/ March 10-60x52/ X-ring wood/epoxy stock with 3-way butt pad and 16oz Tungsten in the rear. I am at 21lb 7oz with a Ezell PDT tuner. Oh...pinned 20 MOA Pic rail, hung trigger, .308 boltface. Shoot a 6.5 x55 BJAI and soon a .284.

Precisely my two types of actions. My BRMXD bottom eject is for BR family cases only. Is that what your buddy is shooting (a BR variant)? Doesn't seem like there would be enough room for a drop port long enough for a 7mm in a short action.

Yes his is a Dasher on a Borden BRM. I have heard Borden will drops on some of his longer actions too, give him a call. I'm also waiting to hear if the new Bat Neuvo is long enough to open up for anything longer.

I am left handed and do the exact thing except the opposite. I use a RIGHT bolt right load right eject and I never take my trigger hand off the gun. I can keep my cheek and hand on the gun and I think it helps consistency etc. Im surprised more people don't do this setup.

I also shoot left handed with a right handed gun. In the prone it has a very natural feeling.

It's a little strange that I'm a left-eyed right-handed cross-dominant freak and the normal right handed gun works out great for supported prone.

My more dexterous hand does most of the work on the near side of the gun leaving the left hand to do nothing but pull the trigger.

Now, try to convert to sling and everything goes to shit. Good hand is strapped to the gun as nothing but a prop. Dumb left hand has to do all the work on the far side of the gun. Need to find left handed guns, coat, etc.

I have three RBLP that I use for Fclass...and I believe this set up is completely wrong for Fclass if you want to use a spotting scope (it's what i started with and I've stuck with it)....I think a RBRP or LBLP no eject or static ejector is ideal.

I shoot F/TR. I have a RBLPRE / dual port. When I use a spotting scope, I often end up feeding it through the mini port on the right. It is isn't a huge pain, but it is a pain. However, if you were going to have a rifle do double duty F Open and BR, a RBLPRE might be the ticket.

I would really like a right bolt drop port, but I don't know if you can drop a .308 or a .284 case.
