F class rifle

Hi everyone. Ive been cleaning up and 48,i think) year old omark 308 and was considering using it as a f class rifle. It has a real nice walnut stock, fairly good action, confirmed by gun smith) and a target barrel with at least 1000 rounds to go to through the barrel.

Go for it!

I think you will be happy.

Hardest thing about F-Class shooting is going to the Match for the first time. Feeling like the newby amid High Masters is intimidating until you learn that they will welcome you in and readily help. After that is gets to be a lot of fun and at times a realy learning experinece.

Hello; I'M a NEWBY, Just regestered and Plumb dumb when it comes to Benchrest shooting. I have been scanning the forum trying to figure out what I need to know and just thought I would ask for HELP.
1ST. I'M retired with Rhumatiod Arthritus and love shooting sports. But the only background I have is shooting in two national black powder offhand matches at Friendship Indiana. My Arthritus has slowed Me down a lot and I have been giving thought to Benchrest shooting to help with the physical restrictions I have.
Please tell Me more about F class Includeing yardages shot at. I see several references to 600 yards. Is this the only distance F class shoots ?
I am also very interested to know of any ranges / Compitions held in My area. I live apx 100 miles due east of Memphis Tennessee. Just about where the state lines of TN, AL, MS intersect. So ranges in N.W. AL, Central TN, And N.E. Mississippi are all reachable easily.
Any help or information You think helpfull is appericiated. THANKS adcTrapper

Trapper, F-Class is part of High Power. Shooting is done prone slow fire. Distance used depends on what's available and can be up to 1000yds. You may use a scope, a front rest,Open class) or bipod,TR but must be .223/5.56 or .308/7.62 chamber to be TR), and a rear sandbag. It is done by score, not group size, and targets have a 10-ring that is a little under 1MOA, it's 6 inches at the 600 yard line. Course of fire is usually 15 shots or more per stage. Since it is a variation on High Power, each shot is pulled and marked when pits are available. So ordinarily you may not rapid fire some rounds during a good condition as you could in a benchrest match. Also you may not set up windflags of your own. The range flags will be the only flags downrange. So it has some definite differences from Benchrest.

Since you're in Tennessee, look in the Competition Forum. There was a guy posting about matches in your general area. I think they had a 1000yd range.

Hi Gary,

I'm not sure where the U.S. stands on accommodating disabled shooter in F-Class, but generally speaking, most rifle associations around the world will accommodate up to and including shooting off a bench. I suspect with your RA, you might find the positioning of your head and neck uncomfortable with prone shooting.

F is is a bit more laid back than bench, although bench matches can be lots of fun and there are certainly some very knowledgeable shooters in the sport. Maybe the trick is to pop your head in on both types of matches and introduce yourself. I know we F-class types are thrilled to death to meet a new shooter and we are even happier to see someone overcoming a disability to the point where they can continue to enjoy shooting!

Good luck and jump right in!

Trapper, F-Class 600 yards is shot in Memphis, TN each month. POC is Johnathan Ross nickname is JR,fntm58@msn.com) and the gun club is Memphis Sport Shooting Association, http://www.memphis-ssa.com/ ). Give JR an email and I feel pretty sure they can accomodate you - you might need to bring someone to pull targets when it is your turn, but JR will do whatever he can to help.

Welcome to the F-Class fraturnity,

George
