F-class Rifle Rain shields

A time ago, there were posts showing pictures of rain shields used by F-class shooters. There is a particular one that is clear and lays over the rifle allowing the shooter to keep the action and ammo dry. It is light as well so as not to increase the weight too much of the rifle.

Does anyone have a link to this thread or links to products for purchase (working on Xmas list)?

Thanks in advance.

Just about any fabric store, for sure at Hobby Lobby, will have clear vinyl on 1-yard roll. HL has two thickness grades that are dirt cheap. Buy yourself 1 linear yard of it, and for under $5 you have the makings of a good rain cape. With a few pieces of velcro attached to both the vinyl and the rifle scope, you will have something that will stay put. I use a large enough piece that will also cover my ammo box, out of the thinner vinyl.

I took the minimalist approach. It should work in most situations, but maybe not for the rain "that comes from the ground up" like was mentioned in Forest Gump.

kyreloader,

I think that you are talking about these: http://starshooter.webnode.fr/products/ss-rain-sheild/ These are pretty cool! They don't cover the ammo so you will need something for that.

I would lean more toward the shower curtain method. It keeps the action and ammo dry. If you keep the action dry but the ammo gets wet your not doing yourself any favors.

If you need pictures of the shower curtain method let me know. I think I have some from Canada this year. There were puddles on the ground before we got to the 8 shot for record. So it was difficult to keep everything dry, but it was very easy to see the wind changes! ;D

KT/Mark, I would love to see pictures if available, can email me if easier (rankin_wade@hotmail.com).

Mr. Biggs, would you have any pictures available of your vinyl shield.

KT, the star shooter one is nice, but would like to cover the ammo with same piece if possible.

Thanks guys!

Wade,
Here is another photo of what Mark is talking about from the 2011 Creedmoor matches in Ireland from a different perspective.

So just to clarify you are presenting these "rain covers" to Tech and rifles are weighed with them on, correct?

That is when being used during a NRA Approved or Registered Tournaments, correct?

Yes I do and everyone should who uses them. If it is attached to the rifle it should be weighed with the rifle. While it is not mentioned in USA NRA rules other than rule 3.4(a)(1) “The rifle’s overall weight, including all attachments..”.
It is in the ICFRA international rules -
F3.2. Screening. A barrel mirage band is permitted and black or coloured adhesive tape may be applied to the top surface of the barrel. A flexible or rigid cover may be used to prevent dust or rain from getting into the action. More general cover may be provided by a piece of transparent material not exceeding 1 metre square over the scope and action which:-
F3.2.1. does not interfere with the RO’s visibility over whether the bolt is open or not, and
F3.2.2. is attached to the rifle in such a way as to ensure that the material cannot be blown away by wind or muzzle blast.
F3.2.3. Personal shooting ‘tents’ are not permitted.

Keep in mind a major advantage to the rain sheet is to keep water out of your action and off your ammo which can raise pressures, cause case ruin and possible injury to a shooter.
