F class optics

I have been shooting for a long time but never did F class.
The longest range is 500 yards. I am looking to spend 1k or less. What would you recommend The Leupold, Weaver, sightron
Or any others

What looks better on your rifle? ;D They are all great rifle scopes. I have a personal thing for my sightron as I got a great deal on it and got a sour deal on the leupold but they are both amazing scopes. PS the sightron at least the one that I have focuses in to 10 yards so that I can use it for shooting my 22lr indoor and offhand.
Edit
Yesterday went to the indoor range to practice offhand. I had left my sightron 8-32 set for 200 yards on elevation and focus. Dialed in my numbers and adjusted the focus to what the bell is engraved for and was dead on first shot. I love my sightron more than my leupold only because I got an amazing deal on that scope. best 300 bucks I ever spent at a fishing tackle shop.

Sir
Have both Night Force and Sightron on F-Class rifles. While you cannot fault a Night Force they are VERY expensive. Best value out there IMHO is the Sightron. I have the Sightron III 8-32x50. It is super clear glass and very crisp adjustments. I have also heard great things about the Sightron III 10-50X60, but also hear it is huge – something to think about. Sightrons will run around $900

Couple of thoughts:

1) Variable power is great. On a perfect day you can dial it up and see the targets etc with no problem. When the mirage is heavy you can dial it down to where you need it and can see the target through the mirage.

2) Need to think about what crosshair you want – I have both fine cross hair and fine cross hair with 1/8 MOA dot. Personally I prefer the plain fine crosshair, look through them both if you can and see which works best for you.

3) Make sure you know how much your rifle weighs but if you are shooting F-T/R make sure you how much weight you can have in your scope. For instance, Nightforce are very heavy – take it from me (experience here) getting to match and finding your rig is too heavy and THEN trying to find a way to save ounces is not fun and not good for the stress level.

You’ll get lots of great input here – read it like you are eating fish – take it all in, chew it, swallow the meat and spit out the bones.

Enjoy and good shooting

For only 500yards I would look at either a 6-24x56 or 8-32x56 Sightron. I have the 8-32 on my FT-R rifle and I LOVE it, very clear glass, tracks superbly, good firm clicks and a reticle I really like, the LR TD. For the money, you CAN'T beat a Sightron IMO.

I just purchased a NF 8-32x56BR for $1100. This would be my recommendation to you. The NF 12-42BR is the most popular, but is a couple hundred more. Personally, I have not used more than 24X magni so far and think the 8-32 is perfect for me and cheaper.

I just bought a Sightron for for less than $900.00. The glass is great, the tracking is good and I am impressed with the quality. They are the best deal in scopes right now IMHO.

I've had the misfortune of having to shoot against Sightrons and NF's, with the first scope I bought for F-Class which was far underpowered. I looked through many scopes and if you had the Sightron and NF sitting side by side with no labels, it'd be hard to tell which was which.

Sightron. Have an 8-32x56 side focus fine crosshair on my 6.5AI.

Shot an F Class match Saturday (800, 900, 1000). The crystal clear Sightron optics made it possible to clearly see 3 different mirage flows while shooting at 1000 - left to right at 200, right to left at 500, left to right at 700. The wind flags were blowing straight in from 12 o`clock.

Enough to fry the human brain trying to figure all that out. But the Sightron let me see it.

I also considering different scopes for a new F-T/R rifle. Not meaning to hijack this thread, but the only Sightron scope I owned 2 years ago was the SIII 10-50x60 and the elevation and windage adjustments were very mushy compared to my Nightforce or March scopes. Are the Sightron adjustments more defined now?

The vertical and windage clicks on my 8-32x56 are very positive. I did the 4 moa right, down, left, up test and the 5th group was right on top of the first group.

I am also impressed by the side focus. A lot of range at any given distance. Other side focus scopes I have used have very little travel at a given distance and you have to put in some effort to hit the focus right on.

Have had the Sightron focused at 25 yds. When focused at 1000 yds there is still focus travel available beyond 1000.

The 8-32x56 Sightron will be on my 6.5AI in the Ontario Championships in 2 weeks time.
