No, it's not full, sign up there's room and it's going to be a great time with the new electronic targets.

Danny, I thought all you loaded was them big magunums! I can't afford on of those. Maybe I better finish the reloading myself.

Also Larry, I told Bev she can get out it (marriage) and she did not know that! She got a strange grin on her face. Better bring her up here with you or she not be there when you get back.

10 days to go...also for those of you new to the electronic targets, you will be using a lenovo tablet for scoring and plotting your shots. You're going to have to plan on a spot to put the tablet while you are shooting. The tablet is also going to have to "see" the antenna to your right side. The best idea ive seen so far is Mr Bauer's idea, he gently clamps the tablet in one of those quick clamps with the soft jaws he then sticks the tail end of the clamp into the ground to hold it up. Its a great idea as it keeps everything a bit elevated for better reception.

I made a small easel for my Galaxy Tab-E 9.6 tablet and used it successfully at Atterbury (wish I could say the same about my shooting).
Will it work at Lodi, or do we have to use the Lenovo?

I will also add a sun shield for it before Lodi.

Thanks!

So, just out of curiosity, I see that shot #15 on your screen got scored an "8" - but, it's clearly cutting the 9'ring scoring line. Then I see shot #14, marked an "X", which is cutting the X-ring line, but in this case, the system gave you the point. Which would confuse me a bit - why did you get the point on 14, but not 15? Is it just degrees of touching the scoring ring?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but is the mark on the screen actual, or just representational? If it's representational, then I assume there is never a basis for challenging for score... :)

Very interesting as well. Per my previous post in the "electronic scoring" post and per the SMT tech I conversed with; "If in the full zoom mode and it touches the line you will get the higher score". Not sure if this picture is a "full zoom" mode so I'll leave this as a FWIW. Eric in DL

The screens can be zoomed in and out.. which will change the position of the shot on the screen.

Looks like this might be a "plot view" picture and that is a nice tablet caddy. Better put a rain shield on it as we've been known to shoot in the rain...downpour! LOL, Unless with e-targets shooting in moisture is a no-no?? Eric in DL

Rain's (so far as I know) not an issue for ET's. Can be tricky when ammo's wet though.

Lightning? We shut things down, take shelter ASAP off the range 'till things settle down.

Snow's unlikely, though whether it affects how a match is run depends a lot on direction & intensity. It's hard to hit what you can barely see out there.

Jay,
As you can imagine, I also had the same doubt when it actually happened, why was #15 an 8 and not a 9 (?) and I asked. There was an explanation, which satisfied my curiosity at the time, but I cannot remember exactly what it was. I would venture to guess that it had to do with the degree of zooming. Maybe Shawn can explain it.

The system does not take into consideration the bullet caliber but only the impact of the point of the bullet. This means that if the point is hitting outside the 9 ring it is marked as 8. The implication is that the scoring done electronically will be more "conservative" than the one done manually, where the full caliber of the bullet is taken into consideration. This is my understanding on how this particular e-target system works. I might be wrong but this explains the scoring in the picture.

That sucks. One of the advantages to the larger caliber is that it has more potential to cut the line due to its bigger diameter. Isn't that why some short range BR guys are shooting the 30s for score?

I would sure love to have a pair of eyes looking at those liner shots. What is the accuracy claim of the Silver Mountain Targets?

I know in the last Palma match we had, I purposefully counted on my target I was pulling for, how many shots were within an 1/8" from a line. I counted 21 shots with that criteria.

If I saw my screen and saw a shot #15 or 20 as shown in the picture above, I would go crazy not being able truly know the score for that shot, especially since it appears to be on the line, and challenging it I guess would be out of the question.

Looking at the target, if the circles around the plotted numbers represented the size of the bullet holes at 1000 yards, those holes would have been produced by a caliber twice the size of a 50 BMG. The 10-ring of a 1000 yard target would hold ~32 .308 bullet holes across while the plot numbers on this target fit only 9 across (see below where the #9 marker was pasted across the 10-ring).

I added a green speck on top of the plot number for shot 15 that would be approximately the size of a 308 bullet hole. With that one it looks like it would still be very close to a 9, but much more plausible to not touch the line.

So definitely the zoom level.

Keep in mind that it's only +/- 1/4 of a inch accurate, according to requirements. Certainly less then the capability of a manual marker. So, you could be off by a half inch in the worse case.
