F CLASS IN SO CAL?

  • Thread starter Thread starter PJ
  • Start date Start date
We have 600-yard Matches at Ojai,40 minutes from Ventura) twice a month. Guys shoot F-Class style rifles. There is a long-range match at Coalinga on a pretty regular basis. Also check out the West End Gun Club, Devore, CA. They have tactical matches shot prone with bipod. WEGC: http://www.jmallard.com/westend.htm

Can be hot as the blazes in summertime. Now is a good time to shoot.

Hi PJ,

About one hundred miles north of the L.A. sprawl is the Cuyama Valley, home of the Tri-County Rifle Club. We shoot club matches on the third Sunday of just about every month. The matches alternate between the Palma course, odd months ), and 2 x 1,000 yard matches, even months ). We have five targets and firing lines at 600, 800, 900, and 1,000 yards. F Class is more than welcome. I'll be up there on Saturday, 2/18, for some practice and will camp at the range until Monday. I hope. You're welcome to join us. Drop me an email: myke155 "at" yahoo.com

There is a match at the Pala Club the first Sunday of the month just off the 15 in Nothern SanDiego county. JimDee

MIKET,
What info can you give about the range? I might have that date off from work. The 02/18 i'll find out end of this week.If you want to email me with the info. Sorry i just reread your post. Being new to this long range class shooting. I've shot some in precision long gun school.Just not knowing the classes. What is the difference between f class and palma?

OLDJAD,
Pala is that east of oceanside off i15? I used to hunt coyote near there if it is the area i'm thinking. Went to rainbow a few times and used that range. You know the one just south of the check point on the 15?

PJ,

The range is geared towards informal club long range matches. The Palma course is unlimited sighters and fifteen record shots at 800 yards, two sighters and another fifteen record shots at both 900 and 1,000 yards. Each stage is allowed 22 minutes. Palma is normally shot with an unmodified .308 Win. using iron sights and a sling; but F Class allows the use of any caliber, our range - registered matches do not allow magnums ) and scopes over any rest; think prone benchrest. This month we're shooting at 1,000; unlimited sighters and twenty record shots in thirty minutes. We usually have a couple relays; one pulling targets while the other shoots and scores their own targets.
There will be a couple of us there on Saturday to practice and reface targets for the match on Sunday. I camp at the range, some stay in nearby Maricopa. I'll have both my Palma rifle and a 6BRimp along, you're welcome to test drive 'em. I hope this helps, let me know any other questions.

MIKET,
Can you list directions to the range? If i'm not working i'll be coming from san jose. TIA

LA is not SoCal. San Diego is! :D

There's a 1000 yard range in Coalinga - info on ranges near Central California can be seen at http://www.carifle.com/ .

I also run a site dedicated to highpower shooting in California and surrounding states at http://forums.delphiforums.com/CA_Highpower .

A buddy of mine runs the Arizona.rifleshooting.com website, http://arizona.rifleshooting.com ) This site is focused on events in the Southwest US.

F-Class shooters are welcome any time, anywhere there is a long range or prone highpower match.
