F class front rest with board ?

Are you allowed a board under your front rest in f class? Just asking as I've seen this done at a registered match.

As I read the rules , YES. But it has to be attached to use spikes. This is my interpretation not official. I only knows this because I tried it. And abandoned it.

This was just a piece of plywood on the ground with the rest on top of that. The legs weren't attached to it but rather leveling on top of the plywood.

It's another loop hole but not the way to go unless you want the rest moving forward on every shot when you push it back to battery.

Here is what the rule book says about boards and spikes:

(2) The use of any form of a table is prohibited. Separate flat boards or plates not exceeding the
dimensions of the individual rests by two inches are allowed to be placed under the front and/or rear
rests. See Rule 3.4.1(a)(1).
No leveling screws or protrusions are allowed on these boards or plates. They must be flat on the top
and bottom.
...................
(7) The front rest or base may have up to three spiked feet which may be pressed into the ground by no
more than 50mm (approximately 2 inches) provided this causes no significant harm to the firing point.

Basically, you can put a flat board under your front rest. The board can't have spikes and it can't be too big. Using a board isn't some kind of "loop hole" any more than using a shooting mat is a "loop hole". It's not only acceptable, it's specifically provided for in the rules.

The front rest itself CAN have spikes, but they can't damage the shooting surface in case your range has nice Persian carpets covering the shooting positions.

That wasn't nice.

You don't seem to recognize opportunity very well. Theoretically I could bolt my rest to a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood according to the rules. I see that as a opening for creativity , that's what I meant by "loop hole" . That rule is a waste of ink if you just attach the board to the rest. Give me a roll of duct tape and I'll make it legal for ya.

Anyhow it's no big deal, just trying to answer a question.

I tried the board last year when I first got started in F-class. It can only be two inches larger than the rest itself front and sides (according to the rules) and cant have legs as someone indicated. It did not provide a more stable shooting platform given it was not that much larger than the rest. It flattened out the uneven ground, but tended to slide on the grass without anything sunk into the ground. I also created divots for the rest legs to sit in on top of the board. I abandoned it and modified my Caldwell BR to have better legs to sink in the ground. After a season of that, I forked over the money for a Farley and no longer have issues (other than the 100 other issues I have).
