F-class article

I just read Jeff Cochran article " F-class winning formula" and I must say I very much enjoyed it!! And it's got me hooked on learning for about F/TR. I don't think I would do any good in BR matches but something like F-class is possible. And he talks about the low cost gear ( rifle) I might have two rifles that might do decent with what do you think? 600 yard matches ( 6SLR, 7.5 twist brux in front of a stiller on top of a Jewell bedded in a McMillan game scout. And the other rifle (800 to 1000 yards) is a trued remington 700 with fluted bolt and a bush pin in 7mm RM with .170 FB, 8 twist krieger bedded in a McMillan A-5 with a Jewell. I like how he thought that the 7mm might have a come back soon. If there are any more of your guys or gals in F/TR give me your thoughts and opinions. I would really like to learn more about this. Thanks!!!!

The main thing is that F-TR is limited to .308 or .223. But, you could easily show up at a match and shoot either of your rifles in F-Open. I know a few shooters that do well shooting Open from a bipod.

Mostly though, before you do any additional gearing up, go shoot some local club matches and check out what's on the firing line and see where you want to go from there.

7mm might have a com back soon??? 7mm is it the prime of its comeback!!! Look along the line at any F-class match and you will see a predominance of 7mm cartridges with the F-open shooters. 284 win, 284 shehane, 7WSM, 7RSAUM, are the dominating rounds right now. On the 600 yd line you do see a lot of 6mms though, 6-br, 6 Dasher, 6xc, and your 6xlr. Both of your rifles would fit right in shooting open class. You need to find a match and go shoot. Youll be hooked!

Sorry about the 7mm comment? I don't know how old the article is.
And yes I would be interested in shooting the open class, but how do you find out where all the matches are? Here in NW MISSOURI there isn't a whole lot going on other then IBS. ( that I know of).

caleb85, we just had the Missouri F-Class state championships in Marshall Mo, a couple of weeks ago. St. Louis Benchrest club shoots monthly matches and the first weekend of October is the Sierra Cup,,,, you are in the thick of F-Class shooting at 600 yds. Check out the Competition forum right here on this site for more information.

I agree; you'll be hooked. Those 6mm guys whip my tail with more Xs than you can shake a stick at. But I keep going back with my .284 hoping for a tornado.

I'm glad you liked the article. Keep in mind it was written about ten years ago. Much has changed since then. Maybe I should do an updated article soon.
The main thing to to get involved and have fun.
