F-Class 6x47 12-42x56 NXS vs 8-32x56 NXS

Hi all,
I'm a New Zealand F-Class shooter. I'm curretly wishing to upgrade my scope for F-Class shooting at all of 300, 500, 600, 800, 900,& 1000 yards with with a 6x47Lapua.

I have used NXS's in 5.5-22 for 7 years and I want to stay with this NXS's (rather than going to BR). Will probably go with the NP-2DD retical this time around.

Am trying to decide between the 12-42x56 NXS vs 8-32x56 NXS. If possible i would like to go with the 12-42. I figure I need approx 27-29 MOA from a 100 yard zero to reach 1000 yards. The 12-42 however has only 45MOA of total elev. I do not want to be faced with the situation after mounting the 12-42 that is do not have enough MOA's! :'( As part of the project I will look to either include a 20MOA rail or mount using a NF Unimount with 20MOA built in (I already have an un-used Unimount).

What has been people's experiance with the 12-42 and getting this to work? I welcome peoples advice here. Thanks!

Yep, I have a 6x47 and 12-42x nightforce. Mine is the BR model. ( or was, as I sold it a few hours ago). I recommend you get the burris signiture Z rings. These have plastic inserts, which you can get in various offsets in a kit. With 2 pairs of .010" inserts in the front and back rings, you can give your self another .020 moa elevation. I have a 20 moa base but use these rings so that my windage in centered and I can get a bit moe elevation for 1200yd shoots.
I would also go for the higher power scope in NZ, as heavy mirage wont often be too much of a problem so you will often be able to run higher power. You can always turn it down if needed.

For F-Class, get the 12 x 42. I have one in the BR scope. I found that the 1/8 clicks are a great thing on the F-Class target with the half size scoring rings. The NXS is a good scope too.

I also prefer the NP2DD. The tapered lines really draw your eye to the center dot. It works incredibly well. The dot is small enough you can move it from one side of the x ring to the other.

Yes do plan on using a 20 MOA rail. I have one on my 6BR rrifle. I have it zero'ed at 600 yards. I go up 18 minutes for 1000 and down 11 minutes for 300. I have more than enough elevation with the 20moa rail.

Thanks for your help Eric & CR.

Will go with the 12x42 with the 2DD. Will try the 20MOA Unimount first as i have one. At this time I go the NXS way (due to familiarity & I like the exposed turrents).

On question: Does any one know if NF are bringing their NXS scopes out soon (or now) with 0.125 MOA clicks rather the the standard 0.25. I thought I read this some where? ???
