Extreme ELR -- Lobbing in Lead Until You Land One

Just read this article on the claimed new 'world record' of 4.4 miles. I was sort of impressed on the process until I read the last paragraph! It took 69 shots to walk it in before they finally hit the moa sized board, and luckily the hit was dead center. So they quit while ahead with a one shot group! Sounds like a very expensive hobby to me. I'd be happier putting 20 consecutive shots inside a 10 in circle at 1000 yards.

Here's a shooting buddy setting a World Record. All alone, no team or spotter. No sighters, cold bore shot had to be a hit with two backup hits.

And for the naysayers, it's a factory barreled Savage setting in an ARS chassis. Even more impressive.

Me at the Warren and Sweat tree stand archery tournament. My bow usually had a 45yd pin Donny told me I better have a 60yd at least so I added 2 more pins and set them. After the competition they had a money shoot, $1 per shot at the giant animal (elk or buffalo) unknown yardage. He is way out there so 60 yd pin 1 foot over his back. Arrow hits the ground 40 yds short. I hit him on the 6th or 7th shot. but a guy from Okeechobee was closer so they pulled my arrow. He told me after it was over that the best he could tell it was 113 yds. Like I said even a blind hog gets an acorn every once in a while. The guy from Okeechobee was not a blind hog he had an infinitely variable sight and he had dope for it.

Just too funny! I guess I just don't get the appeal if it takes 69 shots for 1 hit. Lol.

About every year when on a prairie dog hunt/ praire dog town if I see some calm fatties off in a distance I’ll sling some lead at em. 700-800 yards. I’ve hit a few but I’ll stop at 10-15 rounds. Kinda fun, but hitting a steel target from a different time zone? Nahhh.

A single hit can be a world record? That seems to be a problem with who ever is in charge of that “record”. With enough ammo and enough rifles that’s a record that can be bought with enough money.

It’s fun to see how far you can hit something, so I’m not saying it’s a waste of time, but should it be a teen varmint world record for a 14 year old get an award for finding the perfect prairie dog perfectly silhouetted against a light background and so far away it’s hard to even tell what it is other than it fell over after the 200th round with his dad’s elr rifle?

The 13 year old that just became the first human to ever beat Tetris really did something impressive. Artillery fire not so much.
