Extraction Funnies

Looking for any circumferential rings that would indicate a bad spot in the chamber and the amount of dirt on it.
I would never use that blacksmith tool to deburr a chamber. ScotchBright on a cleaning rod is my method.
Here are 5.
All stick enough to have to pound bolt back with screwdriver handle.

You can see soot on them but the pic doesn’t show it well.

You are neck turning? If so, I don't see consistency.

The body of the brass, indicates signs of a dirty or too rough of chamber.

Dent in the body/shoulder junction on one piece of brass as well.

I see some concerns on your brass how much neck clearance are you running?
Wayne

I guess I’m not sure.
.231 bushing. This brass was turned down .003”

these fired rounds will slide back over a loaded bullet up to the case with very little tension.

what other concerns?

I’m open to about anything now!

I thought the brass looked rough as well.

I turned these quick to see if it’d make a difference and it didn’t.

What die are you using to resize?
What clearance are you giving your neck? It looks like they’re turned but it looks a little rough. Are you sure about the turned thickness?
Also...watch the primary extraction explanation.
You should cast that chamber. It’ll show any defects and give you the neck size.
Welcome to wildcat shooting!

This is a Redding FL/b die.
.231 bushing.
Im not sure on the clearance to be honest, turned these down thinking it was a neck issue and it doesn’t seem to have made any difference Ed.

I wateched that video and not a single Remington I own looks like it’s “supposed” to lol.

I’ve tried the barrel on 2 actions and with 3 different bolts and the cases still get stuck.

This is my 3rd 20-250 barrel. First issues I’ve ever had!

I would say trim your Lapua brass neck a little more and also use a small base FL die on them. Lapua is noted for being oversize, very often. Have you tried any other brand of brass ? Does it do the same ?

Ok then.
It seems like your die is not sizing the base of your case enough.
Your chamber might be tight so you should try a small base die. A 308 version should work. I can look and see if I have one. I can send it to you to see if it fixes the issue.
You still need to see if your primary extraction is set right. It works like a little crowbar.

Measure a loaded round at the neck and a fired case to get a idea of how much neck clearance you have. Will a bullet drop in a fired case ?… I also noticed the other problems that’s already been mentioned and I agree with them

Looking at the picture again, clean the chamber. SCRUB that chamber. There are lots of imprints on the brass.

Pictures can be deceiving as well, but, the web of the brass looks like there might be some slight bulging as well, just ahead of the thickest part of the web (above the shiny area at the base).

I necked down some Nosler brass and it fits just haven’t fired any. Will try Winchester as well.

Please explain the .003 measurement.

Did you reduce the wall thickness of the neck by .003"?

Or did you reduce the loaded round neck diameter by .003"?

The chamber must be filthy based on the look of the brass. Had this happen to me on a .222 shooting ball powder. The suppressor will cause back pressure adding too, or causing the problem. Good luck!

Please explain. Is this a 20/250 FL bushing die or is this a 22/250 FL bushing die with a 231 bushing to accommodate the 20 cal neck?

Redding 22-250 bushing die with a .231 bushing. guts have been changed to a .204 setup so the expander is correct.

I trimmed the brass down .003" on a unloaded round.

I don't remember the exact numbers but I used a micrometer to measure the OD of the neck and it was .XX5 after I turned it, it was .XX2.....Hopefully that is explained well enough.
