Expectations

I have been considering the purchase of an Encore Pro Hunter pistol and was wondering what one could reasonably expect, accuracy) from this type of pistol? I would be starting with an all stock model. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

The Encore is quite accurate. My XP100 shoots 2.25" groups at 200 yds with a 2X dot that just lets the corners of a target show.

I have a 3X12 Burris on it now and it shoots less than 1moa at 100 2 out of 5 strings. Usually pull one for some unknown reason.

What caliber you looking at?

Not sure yet, I'm still exploring my options. I'm thinking something pretty small because I don't want a lot of recoil/report. What would you suggest?

The Encore trigger sux. The older Contender trigger could be made very good. I was getting great groups from my 223 with a rifle scope on it. You didn't say what you are doing with it. Shooting groups for fun, varmint hunting, what? Also look at Bullberry.com, Match grade machine, OTT, SSK and some of the other custom shop places to see the choices in calibers available.

You have to either send it to Mike Bellm or install a custom spring from him yourself. Not really a big deal, but still not as crisp as the Contender trigger. It doesn't have the sear adjust screw the Contender did. http://www.bellmtcs.com/store/index.php?cid=34

I love my Encore. the Bullberry 6BR barrel, bought used) has shot sub 1/4 inch groups with 80 Bergers. The 22BR barrel started life as a 22 Hornet and is sub MOA it likes 52 Bergers and 55 nosler BT's.

A friend of mine on the board as preacher did my trigger. It is now awesome. This is a field gun and will hit what it shoots at. I love the encore, the only barrel that I don't shoot a LOT is the 375 H&H mag. It just kicks too dang much to plink with all day.

The pistol barrels are every bit as good if you do your part, the groups are in the 1 to 1-1/2 inch range at 100 yards. I did have a 243 barrel that shot very well out to 300 yards.

My opinion is the Thompson barrels are of poor quality, so if you have a burning desire for an Encore then sure. Some of the better T/C barrels will shoot well, but nothing close to the better pistols out there. The Contender triggers are much, much better. The T/C wizard, Jim Henry,Barstow, CA) does an amazing trigger job. If you want a really great shooting "hand cannon" then get a bolt pistol, like an XP-100 or HS equivalent) or an MOA Maximum.

get hold of Mike Bellum in Grants pass Oregon. He can set you up with all the necessary things and instructions to do a trigger job. I worked on my trigger after buying the parts from him and got 3 oz. You can also get over sized pins and the tools and instructions to correctly get your encore correctly head spaced. He is a great guy. If you look in the early guns of the week you will see an encore. That is how I found out about Mike.
