Examples of how to fly with gear

I thought I would post a video that I did showing how both myself and another competitor traveled to the V2 Finale this past weekend. I know there are a lot of different ways to do it, but it never hurts to share tips and tricks because we all face the same pains when trying to travel with guns and gear.

One additional note that wasn’t in the video is that if you need to fly with ammo Alaska has the most generous weight limits at 50lbs. Most other airlines are 11lbs. I only fly with Alaska if possible because of this.

Very helpful video John -- thanks for creating that. Your advice can help folks travel more safely and securely. Pretty important when the value of a match rifle and optic could exceed $6500.00.

Here is one of Jay Christopherson's case interiors for an F-Open Rifle. When traveling he separates the stock from the barreled action. He uses a custom-cut foam piece that holds the components very securely. Note the separate slots for barreled action, stock, scope (in rings), bolt assembly, and spotting scope.
