Ex- SCOTUS judge wants to squash 2nd Amendment

Everybody screams about the NRA but what people fail to recognize is that power of the NRA isn't really in the organization itself. It's power is in the millions of extremely loyal and ACTIVE voters it represents. Gun owners go to the polls very predictably, especially when issues effect them and politicians are well aware of that. That's where the power lies.
NRA is actually quite a powerful lobbying organization. It's 5 million members represent roughly 2% of the US Population. So maybe 5% of the total voting population. A lot goes on behind the scenes.

In listening to the retired judge, I think he is merely identifying the problem and saying IF those that want to eliminate legal guns in the country are to do more than just make noise, the have to eliminate the second amendment. Basically, he is saying the second amendment is the major roadblock to the antis endeavor. I don't know that he is advocating the repeal, just saying that any significant elimination of guns in the US requires it's repeal; and in that regard, he is correct. However, those that would seek to follow that course of action really should get all of the data and run a computer program on the possible outcomes of such an action- I suspect that the outcome would make Hitler's Operation Barbarossa look like military genius in comparison.

Ray, he said the 2nd Amendment was to supplant a standing army which isn't needed anymore and therefore the 2nd amendment should be abolished. He's an avowed anti-private ownership of firearms proponent.

"The Second Amendment states that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Stevens called that concern "a relic of the 18th century" and says repealing it would eliminate the only legal rule that protects sellers of firearms in the United States".

Edit, Smart man but obviously never learned the lesson about history repeating itself or as Mao once said, "power emanates from the barrel of a gun". History is replete with those poor souls at the receiving end of governments control of weapons.
I would like to ask him "How's that North Korea working out"?

Yes precisely, in order to be an effective lobbyist you have to offer politicians something. Largely what they offer is voters.

The media and anti-2A crowd focuses their attention on the organization itself as though it's a stand alone entity advocating gun rights. They have a hard time wrapping their head around millions of citizens agreeing with them and that they make their voices heard at the ballot box.

Ok, I was saying the majority of gun owners are not NRA members. We're on the same page though.

10-4, we're on the same page. Definitely the majority of gun owners aren't NRA members. I don't know what the polling data shows exactly but my belief is that a good percentage of non-NRA gun owners tend to sympathize with NRA positions at the ballot box.

Smart man? I have never heard anyone blame a liberal for being "smart"! LOL!!! Their "logic" is so twisted up that even they get caught in their own web of deceit..

They may never repeal the Second Amendment. How will they slam us hard? By making us prove we are mentally and morally able to own a gun. They, in turn, will use every bit of your history (some now being gathered by Google and Facebook, but including medical records) to allege that your propensity is to potentially harm others if you own a gun. That is much more palatable to the masses. It will not come from an outright attack. They will continue to demonize gun owners and the NRA as dangerous radicals.

And if you watch the gun programs on TV, they seldom portray shooters as a family crowd plinking on the weekend or hunting. The public image I see presented is that everyone who owns a gun is an "operator", training to snipe opponents or use a handgun to take out threats. The advertisements and reviews tout how much tissue damage the advertised bullet can do. What these people who are anti gun see is what they think we all are.

But, I personally have not seen many shooting programs ( I am not talking about the hunting shows I have personally seen) that include teaching kids how to shoot, be safe, and have fun. In other words that shooting is a safe family event.

And, I also do NOT see our senators, representatives, or lobbyists working to curtail wholesale prescription drugs for ADD, depression, etc to people, when they have been involved in serious situations.

If they ever do take out the Second Amendment, they will attach severe consequences to even hiding a gun - prison, death. And I'll bet that no one will stand and fight as they did in the Revolution.

So, I hope we keep them upset in Washington.

Sad.
