Everybody has a .44 magnum....right?

Yes, everyone should own at least two. A nice S&W Dash-2 4" blued gun for every day carry, and a 6" for hunting like my Anaconda.

Yes, at the very least two...

Back in '78 I bought a Super 14 in 44 Magnum. There was a gunsmith back then that was converting them to Schaefer 444 Magnum. He had dies that you ran a 444 Marlin case into and it formed them. I shot an Elk with mine that fall at about 90 yards. Classic broadside shot, broke a shoulder going in, and the other one going out. 300gr cast bullet at nearly 1300fps did the trick. DRT!

I’ve owned three Superblackhawks, a 4” S&W 29-2, and a 5” 629 Classic. Shot a lot of #429421’s at various load levels. Moved on to the 45 Long Colt which is much kinder. I don’t miss the 44.

Shooting guns is supposed to be fun, not scary painful and cause instant regrets.

22rimfire for the win. (grins)

For years I didn't need or want a .44 since I already had a .357 I was happy with and a .480 Ruger (my favorite). I ended up getting a Taurus Raging Bull in .44 that was priced too low to pass up. It turned out to be extremely accurate and great to shoot. I pretty much shoot only cast bullets through it and have settled on two different bullet molds that I feed it from. I have a MP mold that is a copy of the H&G #503 and a Saeco 431 (RFN). Both bullets perform well. I gotta go - I suddenly feel the need to hit the range and take the .44 along for some steel plate noise making activities!

BTW - the handgun section is a great additon to the forum.

Ruger Redhawk circa 1987. It has a trigger that only a towtruck or a personal-injury attorney could love.

No, I sold all of my 44s and my 45 revolvers and went to the 357 Super mag with 200g RCBS plain base hard cast powder coated and H-110 with rifle primers and a taper crimp.
This is the very reason; This is a 10 shot group from a 10 inch barrel Ruger SRM at 50 meters with iron sights off the side of my leg. The 357 Super Mag has the same case capacity as a 7mm TCU or 7mm BR and cruises at 50k psi and the 357 SM can be very accurate. If you want jacketed bullets the RN will expand to 50 - 60 cal if that is what you want.

I'm down to just one. It's a S&W 29 Classic Hunter. Factory equipped with unfluted cyl., full lug 6" bbl., Hogue grips, bright deep shiny blue finish, with a 4-way adjustable front sight. This was the original "Gun of the Month" that S&W released in '86? Maybe it was '88? Got it new from a well known S&W pistolsmith in PA who went over the whole thing from stem to stern. It's been flawless.

I may still have some old targets with 5 shot cloverleafs @25 yds. when I was doing load development (when my eyes were better) with Lyman 429244 in pure Linotype @1400fps+. Mostly use lighter loads for plinking if the urge strikes to take the old girl out for a romp.
