Ever see a groundhog up in a tree?

Seen quite a few over the years in trees, and on fence posts. I got one quite a few years back with a 6-284 and an 80gr Sierra blitz bullet that was on top of a fence post about 150+ yds out. He must have just gorged himself on alfalfa thus made for a very gory grand finale and cleaning his carcass off the barbed wire wasn't a treat nor for the feint of heart, but I still counted him in the daily tab. ;) :)WD

Peach tree will have them climbing. I have seen them on the roof of the house next door, not sure why they are going up there but they are always searching for a new place to live.

Usually seen it when the dogs tree one they couldn't catch in the open field. Last month one showed up in a tree in front of my house for no apparent reason other than to get a good look around. As soon as it saw me looking out the window it ran down the tree and then high tailed it across the creek and off into the woods as fast as those stubby little legs would carry it.

Where I live in Northwest Missouri we have some but not as many as the Eastern states have.
I killed one in a tree, it was a safe shot.
It used to be almost every 40 had a hedge row all the way around it, used to see them in the hedge trees.
The old timers in Missouri referred to them as hedge hogs.
They got in my barn and dug tunnels under the dirt floor, it took awhile but I finally eliminated them.

When I was a kid on our family farm the neighbor lady's dog would go out and tree them, one day her husband was out of town so she asked me to come over and "shoot that damm groundhog out of the tree so the dog would stop barking and come home". I popped him with my .22 and then asked her how ofter this happens, she said "that is number 61 this year" !!
I could not believe how many that dog would get, not all of them were treed as he would get ahold of some before they got up there.

I have shot a few of them out of trees on branches, numerous of them off fence posts, my favorite place to shoot them.
Like mentioned in this post I have shot them in the same places. Shot one once in the head and it was like you kicked a fieldgoal, end over end. Was very impressed with the gymnastics. Shot them as high as 15 ft up in a tree too.
