Etymotic GSP-15 Ear Protection

I recently bought a set of GSP-15 electronic ear plugs from Etymotic. I used the discount code posted here on the site to reduce the cost. The plugs really work well. I can hear at normal levels when no shooting is occurring and suffer no hearing discomfort when shooting occurs. Shots are a bit louder than when using my custom molded ear plugs or when using one of my sets of ear muffs. However, the level is comfortable.

So far, I have used the plugs for pistol shooting indoors and for trap shooting outdoors. The indoor range experience took some adjustment because the recovery from the suppression of the gun shots is so quick that there is additional response from echoing that is a bit disconcerting at first.

I believe the Etymotic product is well worth the additional expense over less expensive hearing protection. The ability to hear what is going on the range better plus the comfort level while wearing the plugs have made me a believer.

I shoot an F Class match every month at a range with a covered firing line. I have been using these since Feb. They work great.

I also do load work at ranges with covered firing line. No problems either except that I was next to a guy shooting a braked rifle yesterday at one of the covered ranges. I could feel the percussion. I don't know if anything works for a braked rifle under a roof, however. I packed up and left when he started shooting it. Not worth it.
