ET Internet International shoot

You have heard from me before with ideas about an international shoot. I have just taken part in a match here in Australia, all shot on electronic targets, all shot at 600 yds/mtrs, all shot on the same date and all results then available via internet/facebook the same weekend. This, to me, is the future of shooting matches.
It then occurred to me that such a match should be able to be organised on an international basis. All electronic systems that I am aware of are able to use different types of target. We currently use ICFRA standard targets.
The 'problem' of home ground advantage is largely bypassed as everybody shoots on their home-ground.
Anyway, discuss it amongst your friends and acquaintances and maybe we can arrange something. Maybe a two man team event?
All classes would be catered for. We have Palma syle, and F class, etc. but a lot of ranges in Australia only go back to 600 hence this limitation.
The actual rules can be worked on as we go.
Anyway, I would be interested to hear what others have to say.

Sounds like fun but you will have people flocking to locations where conditions are mild and predictable, picking the most protected firing points, and so on. I wouldn't want to contribute much prize money to such an event.

Its not yet about prize money, more in the nature of a way of :-
1. having fun but with a serious side;
2. seeing how one compares to rivals anywhere on the globe.

But, if all competitors go to ranges that are reputed to be easy, then everyone is in the same boat, so to speak.

Surprisingly, in the just completed competition here, the good shooters still managed to come out on top, even though they shot on ranges that were hundreds of miles apart. First place getter in TR was about 500 miles from the second place getter. So looking for better conditions is still fraught with difficulty.

The only prizes on offer here were woven badges, and they had an entry in excess of 80, including some from NZ. We don't always compete for lots of money. If we did then we would go broke trying to win enough to live on.

How are score reported? Sending a .csv file?

Are matches shot on the same day or within a set of days?

In answer to Steve, all I am able to report about the just completed competition is:-

The matches were all shot on the same day, even with a time frame included.

All matches were shot at the same distances, and the same number of shots. Because the match was based around electronic targets, the same target face is used. We use ICFRA 600 yard target face, but it is a simple matter to change that.

All matches were shot under our Standard Shooting Rules, which are basically the ICFRA International rules.
Those who travel to or take part in international shoots will know what I am talking about, but it is not rocket science.

The competition was designed around electronic targets so that a photo of the shooters monitor was acceptable as proof of the shoot. Some exceptions could be made to this. For example a photo of the score card may be a possibility .
As our club, for instance, uses Hexta targets that are connected to the internet, it was only necessary to send a link to this website.

As clubs are the norm here, one person from each club was nominated as the email contact for that club or group. This in order to keep email addresses at a minimum, although this need not be necessary. It would not be too difficult to accommodate individual entries . The entry fee for this match was incredibly low, as few expenses are incurred.

As I mentioned before, the only prizes on offer were woven cloth badges for the first three place getters in each grade or class.
For instance, I shoot Palma style, with sling and open sights. We have three grades, A B and C. These correspond to High Master, Master and Marksman, I believe. I may be wrong on that, but not hard to make a more or less level playing field

The only problem I can see at the moment is that we are restricted to nothing greater than 155.5 grn in .308, but like I said, nothing is insurmountable so long as good will is to the fore.

A dedicated facebook page was created to keep everyone informed as to entries and results.
All results were also sent to email addressees as a .csv file, to show how one fitted into the overall competition.

As you can see, if you shoot on electronic targets, this format can easily be taken International.

This is only an idea at the moment but as a past International shooter, I would like very much for this to be seriously considered.

For those interested, match that I am referring to is here:

The clubs in our area use either Silver Mountain Target or ShotMarker electronic targets so sending files is no problem.

There is some interest in participating in the use of this format. Our club has weekly and more formal monthly practices at 600yd and this format can complement our matches and encourage a more formal 'practice'.
