ES or SD

Isn’t it fascinating in about 30 years of RFBR, most of that period, you rarely heard of guys running chrony tests to evaluate ammo. All those wins, all those records.
Since we now have Garmins’ etc., guys are going nuts finding “ solutions in search of problems”. Gotta love human nature.
Kind of like when Teslong borescopes came on the market.

So a horse was fine before they had cars
Teslongs have helped lots of folks understand what is really going on inside a barrel
I get my barrels back to the same condition I desire before a match much better with one than without
Chrono data is data/ info More info is better Now what you do with it--how you apply it--etc can be fraught with issues for sure but anything that leads to a better understanding of what you are dealing with is a positive

My first out door match with ARA had maybe 100 flags out --about made me dizzy--The old guy beside me said first time? I said yes--he says when others are shooting you shoot--when it goes quiet you stop
Wind reading 101

I do shoot a lot of matches outdoors--I cope pretty well
The indoor ones are the hardest because they are ammo driven much more than the outdoor where as you state --wind reading is the game.
So....all the data I can gather for indoor is in my mind--helpful. You take out the majority of conditions indoors but then ammo becomes the hinge for success

I bought a Hawkeye bore scope more than 12 years ago used a few times and it has been sitting in my safe since. I don't need to check my barrels on how or if they are as clean as I need them to be the results on the targets tell me that. if you need a borescope to know what is going inside the barrel in correlation to what is happening on the target then you still have not learned your rifle(s) and what needs to keep them shooting at its best.
only shooting will teach you what you need to know about your rifle(s) this is by far the best information you can gather and track.

You don't need to know what the SD or ES on the ammo you shooting only how it performs regardless of the distance you are shooting.
that advice you were given on when to shoot and when not to is not sound advice. shoot only when your condition allows not when somebody else's

It’s expensive but not as expensive as CF. Unless it’s bulk 223 or something. The Berger bullets I shoot for CF matches are nearly .50c a pop.
There was some Lapua being listed on here for $700 /brick
I thought it was a typo or something at first
until I realized it was some desirable match stuff

I'm sure not all .22 Match Ammo is that high priced but, just through me for a loop seeing it.

that’s a pretty generous target. Long gong is 8/6/4” at 300yd. Wind is obviously huge at that distance. But you can’t do well with crap ammo either.
at 200yds you can shoot target ammo, past that you need mid-grade match ammo, like SKRM or SKLR

That's asking price, most ask $200 shipped,no tax.Rifle tested at Lapua test center.$1700 + $17.50. center x

The Teslong is must tool.It will show/prove cleaning habits.Having conversations with Lapua and Whidden this winter, from those conversations,I learned that it is very important to me, patch my barrels after every match, practice session or berfore I store it. I have marked/Indexed my bore scope 6:00 and 12 ,to line up with mirror. My barrels show this wear pattern.
Silica/glass is used in some priming compounds to make it less explosive during manufacturing, it will pit, rough up barrels at 6 o'clock,12 o'clock still looks new. Some have posted pictures forums asking what is this?
Lapua says they do not use silica.

What is "target ammo" and how is it different from match ammo, mid-grade or otherwise?
Target ammo for me is CCI SV, Tac-22, Eley target, etc. They shoot good at 200yds , but will have up to 1 ft of vertical at 300yds.They are a step up from bulk ammo. Cost between $4.00 and $7.00 per box. The next step up for me is SK STD+ and Eley Contact running $7.00 to $9.00 per box. They have less vertical at 300yds. Contact shoots way above it's price point, it does very well out to 400yds. Match ammo starts for me, with SK ammo , SKRM and SKLR running $12.00 to $14.00 per box with less vertical. SKLR is my go to ammo for matches. The top tier ammo from Eley, RWS and Lapua are great ammo I just can't go that cost for the shooting i do. If it was my job shooting matches I would shoot the best ammo made.

Thanks for the explanation. Many shooters might describe SK ammos (and the less expensive Eley and RWS) as entry level match or target ammos with genuine match ammo including Lapua X-Act, M+, and CX, Eley Tenex, Match and Team, and RWS R50 and Special Match (as well as the slightly faster varieties).
