ES and SD

Lol yes I realize that it’s a older tread but everything you look up every one chasing the perfect sd and es and leaving out the moa just thought I open up a newer out look on it. Time has changed from powders to primers and everything in between.

Dont get hung up on chronograph matches- there are none yet. Go work up some loads and leave the chrony at home. Youll have a lot better quality of life. The chrony will never tell you which load shoots best in your rifle so dont stress out over it.

Here is the way I see it. The group size can be affected by many variables. The shooters techniques such as trigger pull, cheek weld, grip, grip pressure and also environmental factors such as wind and mirage. Then there are the mechanical factors like barrel quality, sights, stock rigidity etc. Environmental is out of your control you just have to learn how to overcome it, technique can be learned with a lot of practice and a bit of education. The mechanical side can be bought and even good beginner and intermediate gear can get good results in the hands of a good shooter with decent ammo. The one part of the mechanical aspect that is entirely in the shooters hands is the quality of the reloads. The only one controlling the quality of the reloads is you, manufacture them to whatever quality you want/need/are capable of making

For my ammo a difference of 20FPS is about a half MOA vertical spread at 800 and 1000, a difference of 40 FPS is over a full MOA vertical spread at 1000. I figure load for whatever discipline you are shooting but ES and SD does make a significant difference at 600 yards and beyond. Take your numbers and plug them into a calculator and see how much vertical dispersion various velocity spreads cause and find what you can live with at the distances you shoot

Funny, any ballistic app will say diff than a full moa, if you're getting the full moa your load was shit up front.

how about .8 MOA ? I exaggerated by .2 MOA.

bullet 140 gr .529 G1

2700 fps 23.9 MOA drop 2740 23.1 MOA

this "shit" ammo has been gives me a vertical spread of around .3 - .5 MOA 5 shot groups at 800, less than that at 300 and 600 with the human factor involved. Just as long as I am keeping the loads in the single digit SD's and low double digit ES my gun and ammo will outshoot me. My scores have came up a full 5% this year since adapting Cortina's development method. If I start traveling to 1000 yard matches I will need to upgrade the bullet to one a higher BC but for now these cheapie Nosler CC's are running just fine
